Siew, a Singaporean studying in Australia, looks at the differences between being lesbian in Singapore and in Australia.
Singapore and Australia - places with two very different cultures. Let's just state some differences between being a lesbian girl in Singapore, and one in Australia. For starters, Sarah, my Australian lesbian subject, has intentions of telling her parents that she's lesbian in a few years time, when she's financially independent, even though she knows that they may never accept it. [..] Look at Singapore. Lesbianism is just a "phase" for most. I don't even know if you can call it 'lesbianism'. Perhaps 'experimentation' is a more appropriate word. People try it out in secondary schools, and then as they get older, they 'grow out' of it.
