Calling for Citizen-Reporters for library@orchard
library@orchard said:
From now until Nov 30, we’re looking for bloggers who are willing to act as Citizen Reporters... We’d like you to report on events from now till our final farewell bash on Nov 30. Or you could write opinion pieces about the library, eg. your experiences (ok, so long as it’s not X-rated)...
Recommended by ramblinglibrarian: "For those keen in being Citizen Reporters, and for "saving" library@orchard in a different way. "

What Prof. Kishore Mahbubani has to say about press freedom
Michaelk said:
"When the Singapore media is ranked internationally, in an index of press freedom, it is ranked about 148th in the world, close to Iraq. Is this a fair portrayal of where our media stand in the world? Sadly, it is not.Instead, it reflects the closed minds of those who have a black and white view of the world. These closed minds believe that there is total freedom, including press freedom, in the West, and no freedom at all in places like China. This view is wrong. Let me explain this by giving you some examples."
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "I read this TODAY article written by Professor Kishore Mahbubani. I decided to rebut his claims Singapore's low press freedom ranking "reflects the closed minds of those who have a black and white view of the world"."

Don't know how to count
lzydata notice 3 different paper reports 3 different number of MP who say 'no' to casino.
First they can’t do statistics, now they can’t count. This is a list of 15 MPs I rounded up from coverage. All of them spoke on the casino issue, so Contender No. 2 is out. It is this blogger’s view that Ms. Tor is right, but this awaits further checking.
