Upper Middle Class Folks are Living In Style

Seah Chiang Ngee said:

In a two-storey home, I saw various family members watching cable television on five 37-inch LCD sets in their own rooms. One was attached next to the dining table so that none needed to miss any programme while eating. In front of the house were parked two cars.

Analysis: Balmoral area

sgProperty-advisor said:

What do you think? Can buy a unit in this Balmoral area? The newer projects are Belmond Green, Ventuno Balmoral and Balmoral Heights. Their latest caveats were from 900+ to 1200+ since Q1 2009. All these en-bloc projects when launch in the future should trigger further upside. Another opportunity in nearby projects?

HDB owners being scammed???

Singapore Critic takes issue with the meaning of ownership as defined by HDB and compares it to renting a private apartment.

...an overwhelming 95.6 percent of households interviewed prefer to own rather than rent a flat. ".

My question now would be:

  1. How many of these people actually think that they "own" their 99 year lease hold flat?
  2. How many of these people actually know that they are actually "renting" these HDB flats from the government, and not "buying" them?
  3. Or are these people voicing their unhappiness that these flats are "leasehold"?

[shianux: a leasehold is still considered a property right, and is considered 'ownership' as well, albeit a time-limited one. How many lay people understand the legal difference between freehold or leashold? And furthermore, there aren't many places left in the world where fee simple titles can be found. For all intents and purposes, a 99 year lease is more than enough.]
