Is this Singnet manipulating my traffic? What about your ISP?
Aen said:
I just came across this insightful article on FastCompany.com that Google has launched a network analysis service with a pair of non-profit organizations, in a move to help regular users like you and me to support net-neutrality and expose ISPs (Internet Service Providers) that are secretly degrading the connection speed of users, a practice known as discriminatory network management.

More political space for Singaporeans if Government accepts proposals: AIMs
The Online Citizen said:
After months of consultation with various sectors of society and organizations, the Advisory Council on the Impact of New Media on Society (AIMs), finally presented its report on Internet regulations this morning.“If the Government warmly embrace what we are suggesting…it will lead to more diversity, more choices, more space for political discussion,” AIMs chairman, Mr Cheong Yip Seng, said at the press conference which was held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel at Kim Seng Road.
The report, titled “Engaging New Media, Challenging Old Assumptions”, is a 224-page document, neatly packaged and given out to the media. It comes after consultation with groups such as the Law Society, Government Parliamentary Committees, businesses, bloggers and individuals.

Why Generation Y Doesn’t Read The Newspaper And Can They Do Anything?
Uniquefrequency clarifies why he doesn't read the newspapers and gives reasons why.
Papers are slow. It’s not their fault, I know. Papers are published daily, not hourly, I get that. But explain to me how I hear about an Outram MRT shooting via Twitter, check out the CNA website and it’s not there? Yes I know CNA’s Twitter mentioned it, but sorry, dead man found at Outram MRT is not the same as man shot at Outram MRT.

Dear NETS
mrbrown is unhappy that NETS leaked his contact information to others.
It is bad enough that the small merchants I patronise now ask me to pay cash instead of by the NETS (Network for Electronic Transfer) debit card system, ever since the merchant fees were hiked 400%, now I am receiving phone calls on my mobile phone from some insurance company connected to you...I find the AXS stations you set up fairly useful, which is why I signed up. But can you not give my contact information to such companies to bug me? In addition to wasting my time, these calls cost me money too, because my mobile is not on a free incoming calls plan.

Domain Names As Easy As 123.sg
IDA announces plans to allow use of fully numeric domain names.
Internet users can soon look up website addresses easily with just numbers, and website owners can use their favourite numbers as their website addresses. This is because pure numeric domain names will be introduced by the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) to link websites to businesses, organisations and even personal pages.

Twitter is stupid and we’re all narcissists
Sheylara said:
Twitter is totally the spokesperson for the “Me Culture”. In the little pink and blue boxes that are fast invading more and more corners of the Internet, we see nothing more than shouts for attention.“Look at me! I just did my laundry and wiped the kitchen counter clean!! Can you beat that???”
What the hell? What the hell?
Where is the creativity? The entertainment value? The thing that will make people go, “Ahhh… that was worth my two seconds reading it.”?

Latest Internet Surveillance System reborn in Singapore

Velvet Puffin: Singapore's very own MySpace?
Entrepreneur27 SG said:
We were pretty excited to learn of Velvet Puffin’s (VP) lightning rise to the top of the local Web2.0 pile today; first the local Business Times feature and then the “Web 2.0 Richter Scale” of Techcrunch. Both founders, R Chandrasekar and Sam Hon are 26 and Velvet Puffin is a project under Radixs, a 60-person company both have founded since 2002. Co-founder Chandrasekar also reveals a total of $10million financing (seed and Series A) for the startup from Purple Ray, Artisan Encipta and the Singapore Economic Development Board.

The Future of Internet Is Virtual Worlds. Or Is It?
Coleman Yee talks about whether the future of internet is becoming a 3D virtual world, a topic which was discussed during the recent E27sg IV Web 2.0 UnConference.
The internet as we know it now is mostly what I would call “informational” - where people access content...Besides the informational, the internet also has a large experiential element.

An Unconference for Singapore's Web2.0 community
iBjorn said:
We continue to unearth the more exciting Web2.0 startups in little Singapore, those with crazy ideas that should really sink or swim, as evaluated in front of our live audience. There’s no better way to crash-test your business model in front of real consumers themselves — young university students and bored young professionals with lots of free time spent surfing the web at home, in dorms and offices. If you are keen to practise your VC analytical skills, come sit in. Its really kinda like American Idol where the audience members are all Simon Cowells, Randy Jacksons and Paula Abduls.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Interesting, even the MDA folks who launched the $500M IDM fund will be at the same event. No harm checking out if our local Web2.0 initiatives will take off. "

Launching A Web 3.0 Industry In Singapore??

This event almost looks like another initiative by some harried civil servant who pulled together a bunch of kakis from the other ministries to show the whole world they are all collectively putting effort in doing something that meets their KPI/ ROI/ whatever.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Some views offered on what the government agencies are doing to create a "Web3.0" Industry in Singapore. Are these guys hopelessly out of touch or are we missing something here?"
