Another ACJC ragging incident - this time, the girl gets dumped into a waste bin and wheeled around

Alvinology said:

Remember the brouhaha last year over a birthday ragging incident at elite Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC)? A birthday girl was dragged in the public canteen; had her hands tied to two basketball poles and tortured.

Singaporeans were divided in their opinion over the issue. There were some who chastised the perpetrators, slamming them for having fun at the expense of the birthday girl.

Others, like ACJC student, Javier Yeo defended his school’s ragging culture. “It’s fine. ACJC is part of a school of elite JCs in Singapore which are not meant for prudes anyway”, wrote Javier on his blog.

ACJC principal, Mrs Kelvyna Chan, responded to the incident with relative calm, stating that the school authorities knew about the ragging and had sent the students involved for counselling.

As the ACJC school motto goes: “The best is yet to be”.

Well, another set of ACJC ragging photos have surfaced on the Internet again. This time, a bunch of guys gang up to dump a birthday girl into a waste bin and wheeled her around in the school canteen to “parade” their victory.

ACJC girl gets tied up and tortured… by friends “celebrating” her birthday

Alvinology said:

I am seldom surprised by ragging photos or videos, having been sanitised via my own experiences. Coming from an all-boys secondary school and having been through NS, I seen my fair share. However the screen grabs below from two ragging videos I saw on youtube truly disturbed me...

The two videos mentioned are particularly shocking to me because of two factors. First of all, the perpetrators are practically all females, with a few boys in the background cheering. I never knew women are into such cruelty as well. Second, it occurred in bright daylight at a crowded school canteen - where everybody can see! The poor victim was tied to a chin-up bar and attacked mercilessly. All in the name of “celebrating” her birthday.

Blog Entry by a Normal Secondary School Student in Singapore

Zi Ming said:

My wish for this year is to pass my english paper if not i will not able to graduate to poly or JC. i feel that this year is very stressful as most of the teachers had given mi a lot of homework to do and nd to do a lot of ten years series. Being a student in Singapore is very competitive. My parents always like mi to be top in the school but a lot of student in the school are very “ li hai” and smart so we cant get top. My parents also like to compare mi with the RI students and sae that I am dumb or stupid, but different student hav different capability and talent. So I think that my parent should not compare mi wif them.

Am I supposed to envy their school life? Or be glad that I am in a Polytechnic?

Note to Government: With rocket science like this, it's time to start our space exploration program. ;)"
