You're nobody 'til somebody hates you
Dennis Thompsett said:
I recently received, in a roundabout way, an e-mail containing a speech to graduating students in Singapore, given by Adrian Tan, a lawyer and author. (He wrote the novel, The Teenage Textbook, which was not only a stunning bestseller in Asia, but was also made into a hit movie and a successful play. So he may be the sole reason why Singaporean teenagers are so well behaved and studious today.)In any case, I now intend to blatantly steal from Mr. Tan's speech.

Criminalise lesbianism, say Church leaders
Yawning Bread said:
Firstly, the language used does not include the word "homosexuality", let alone "homosexual orientation". Instead it deploys spin, speaking of "homosexual lifestyle", thus suggesting that homosexual orientation is not integral to a person and reversible, much like other lifestyle matters, e.g. consuming too much transfat or wearing tinted contact lenses. I'm sure I don't have to repeat that such a view flies in the face of scientific consensus today. This deliberate framing of the issue in such scientifically unsupported terms immediately renders the integrity of the statement-makers -- church leaders donning the cloak of moral guides -- suspect.

Hate speech on local radio

I'd think the majority of sg_ljers are not the target audiences for the Love 97.2FM DJ Dongfang Billy aka Billy Wang's radio show. But I see a need to call him out after hearing some uninformed and damaging things he said over in his show.I was just sitting in the living room, reading the papers when I heard him start talking about "homosexuality is a choice" and if you "make this choice and not one that is for marriage and family, you must be prepared for the consequences". AND, he was saying how they're releasing a book on the "touching stories" of ex-gays. Plus, he states that "homosexuality is a direct result of lack of family morality teaching".
Recommended by jasperthedummy: "I guess he still had some balls to say these on national radio. Seriously he should be fired. So what if he's popular among aunties if he blabber things without proof.
