Cosfest VII photo report
Wet Calamari said:
The main highlight? This was a D Gray Man event. Really. There were a few groups on both days and if you’re using a regular 35mm lens you’re sure to see at least one of them in every frame. It’s just like the Bleach and Naruto effect last year, which appears to be dying down already.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "I love reading cosplay event reports. The standard in Singapore seems to be improving a lot. Maybe it's the award of a trip to Japan to represent Singapore in the World Cosplay Summit. Also check this guy's photo report for Day 1 of the event!"

Lone Wolf game demo
Gameaxis said:
All in all, the game is seriously shaping up to be something quite amazing. Everyone who passed by the booth, left with a distinct impression that perhaps they just saw the Next Big Thing. And who knows – give or take another year, this might just pin Singapore firmly on the map.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Remember the old Lone Wolf gamebooks from the 80s and 90s? Local developer Ksatria Gameworks is developing a computer game based on them and it looks good!"

The Darkness banned in Singapore
Gameaxis said:
It's official now, coming straight from the folks from New Era - the distributor responsible for bringing in games from 2K. The Darkness is officially banned in Singapore for what the local censorship have dubbed excessive violence. So it's another 2K title that bites the dust in Singapore, since we can forget EVER about seeing GTA IV here. Oh, and the latest rumor is that Bioshock might be banned here as well for the same reason that the former 2 games won't ever be sold here too.

Victoria Chorale finally did it! We missed it two years back in Bremen, but this time, we were more prepared and more confident! 24 July 2006 will always be the day remembered as the time VC outsang 15 other choirs, to win the Musica Sacra a cappella category!
Recommended by Cobalt Paladin: "A celebration of the team effort of a group of Singaporeans who have been quietly singing their hearts out. After winning gold in their category, still ignored by the mainstream media."

Eidos considers legal options over Lava Kroft mobile game
GamesIndustry.biz reports:
Eidos has revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that it is currently considering whether or not to take legal action over Lava Kroft, a new game from Singaporean publisher Ozura Mobile... Ozura is billing the game as an "epic action adventure" which stars Lava Kroft, "a new age woman who has an exceptional thirst for discovering some of the most intriguing and mystical treasures in the world". Not unlike, it could be argued, Lara Croft, the star of Eidos's hit Tomb Raider series.
Once again, Singaporeans are not-so-Creative. If you want to do a rip off at least be less obvious about it!

Seditious Game?

Should I dial 999 and cry to the Police that the game is Seditious and could cause anarchy by damaging the fabric of religious and racial harmony, that should be dealt with vigorously under the law?

games we played

My girlfriends and I were reminiscing about our primary school days the other night, and the two things we all remembered well were playing 5 stones and Zero Point.I tried to google these games but I can't seem to find any good explanation of the games, which says a lot in itself, but for now I will attempt to describe these two games as best I can.

Singaporean Bridge
thenamesfang found this on Wikipedia:
Singaporean bridge is a re-invention of sorts of the traditional game of contract bridge. This version of bridge derives its name from where it is believed to have been invented, Singapore, and just like its traditional predecessor, there are variations in the rules. What is fascinating is that most Singaporeans, predominantly the younger players, are not aware of how contract bridge is played. In other words, they believe this version of bridge to be 'bridge'. It is also known as floating bridge.
Recommended by thenamesfang: "I bet you don't know how to play contract bridge, and I bet you didn't know you were playing Singaporean bridge. Kudos to whoever submitted this on Wikipedia."

Inaccurate review in Digital Life?
Gremlin said:
If you've read this week's Digital Life, you'd have read a review of the latest Marvel superheroes-based game by EA called Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. The reviewer, in Digital Life, gave the game a stellar review and even gave the piece a headline titled "Super Fun". ... There's really nothing wrong with this review... until you start to read other reviews on the Internet. It seems like every other major gaming press are only giving the game a fair rating.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Seems like the reviews in Digital Life are not always informative nor accurate. Consumers beware what you read."

Singapore Board Games
BoardGameGeek, a database for board game information, has a list of board games that are made in Singapore.
This is my one year anniversary on BGG! So I decided to do a Geeklist as a commemorative tribute. And since Singapore's National Day was just two days ago on 9 Aug, this is a Geeklist of games published by Singapore companies or exclusively deal with Singapore.
