Acquired by JobsDB - Streetdirectory.com BACK in business!

Princessa said:

According to the article, we, the new owners of Streetdirectory.com bought the domain name and assets in the 4th quarter of last year (2007). I'm not sure this happened before or after violating the copyrights of Singapore Land Authority (SLA), but Streetdirectory.com was taken offline in late March 2008.

Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "I'm sure numerous people are glad that streetdirectory.com is up and running, but how exactly does it benefit jobsdb for acquiring this domain?"

Gothere.sg Gets It

Lucian said:

Streetdirectory.com was a kind of guilty necessity. We’d rail about how they made us pay for maps, and cheered when Singapore Land Authority hammered them for us, but SLA’s provision of Singapore maps was lacking. But I digress. We still crawled back to Streetdirectory in the dead of night, because that was the only way to get bus information. We needed Streetdirectory like we needed pocket money from an abusive parent.

Gothere.sg rocks. And I don’t mean conceptually - it rocks right now.

Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "A sign of how things have moved on without SD, I'm quite amazed how good this little-known site is, really makes one wonder why anyone would miss SD. "

of streetdirectory.com no more. alternative map service sites

lancerlord said:

StreetDirectory.com has shut down, after the company behind it, Virtual Map, lost its appeal against the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) over copyright infringement last week.

Following are some sites that provide online map service:
- maps.yellowpages.com.sg: Still has the familiar "streetdirectory.com" and "Virtual Map" maps.
- MAPS: MAPS is an interactive street directory service from SingaporeExpats.com which offers online mapping and travel guide for users planning to get around Singapore.
- StreetMap@Singapore: StreetMap@Singapore is a free service provided by SLA for personal and non commercial use. You can use the forms above to find a location map using address, postal code, road name or the nearest MRT/LRT stations.
- mapFinder: Service provided by www.can.com.sg

Recommended by tinkertailor: "If you're getting withdrawal symptoms since the closure of streetdirectory, here's some relief."

Experiment: "Singapore's Social Media Directory"

Rambling Librarian said:

Check out this directory focusing on Singaporeans or folks based in Singapore. Rather than just blogs, other social media platforms like mailing lists, Twitter, Flickr, allconsuming, del.icio.us bookmarks and wikis are included. In other words, any platforms that encourage online conversations, networking, and resource sharing.

Recommended by coolinsider: "For the first time, somebody is putting together a social experiment wiki that anyone can participate in to give a plug to their social spaces. Check it out!"

The Art of Kan Lume - Trailblazing Visionary

moviexclusive said:

If there had ever been anyone who said the film industry in Singapore will fizzle, they should eat their words now. Signs are pointing to a local movie boom in the next few years. Four Singapore films will be screened at the upcoming 19th Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF), one of which will be "The Art of Flirting".
