A quick timeline of a bizarre flap over that developed over the Wall Street Journal editorial posted here earlier.
On June 30, Lee Kuan Yew’s press secretary Yeong Yoon Ying sent in a response to the WSJ where Yeong asserted that:
Dr. Chee [Soon Juan] in open court then called the Singapore leaders “murderers, robbers, child molesters” and “rapists.”
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Confused by the accusations flying back and forth between LKY's press secretary and Chee Soon Juan? Me too. Here's an attempt to put the whole thing in order, including the actual court transcript and audio recording."

I'm quite shocked that my sister, Celest, actually went up to a child beggar to conclude an "video interview". But what amazes me even more is that she actually manage to come across a child beggar, that smokes, at Bugis.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "An interesting video interview concluded by a couple of youths with a child beggar (that smokes) on the streets. The entry discusses something that is happening in Singapore yet no one is doing anything about."

I have this card system which I have used for the many years of teaching. It works like magic for many reasons. I just shared this idea with my class MT teacher who found it useful too. How does it work? 1. Each child has his/her own card. 2. The card is kept with the teacher. 3. The card is sent home when the child does something wrong or doesn't complete his/her work. 4. Parent will sign and return it through the child.
Recommended by Miss Loi: "An interesting non-intrusive way of informing parents of their child's misdemeanors in school."

My parents are very traditional people and they are critical over the slightest things. They believe in "spare the rod and spoil the child" and that "Parents deserve respect from their children "first" because they wouldn't have existed without parents giving birth to them.
Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Parent's condemnation may lead the children to aggressive self-destructive behavior.

And I had such great memories with those books. I wanted so badly to have a cave, a secret meeting shed with passwords. I wanted to go to boarding school and have so many friends and have midnight feasts.
Recommended by Tym: "Singaporeans who grew up reading Enid Blyton books will appreciate this trip down memory lane."

I have a whole mental library of bayi what color jokes but as an educator, i'm supposed to be neutral medium of information. I have to make a conscious decision to deliver my curriculum and leave my biases at home. Further on in life, these children may form their own opinions about people but it is not my role, job nor right to influence them in the way i think.
Well written piece by a dedicated, sensible childcare/kindergarten teacher.

i'm the middle kid. yup. the one that's neither here nor there, usually. the eldest one is usually the pride and joy of the family, the youngest one is the baby... whereas the middle child is left dangling with nobody caring whether he/she drops to the floor and dies a terrible bone breaking death. okay fine, so i'm exaggerating a tad.
was doing a school assignment on psychology and searched on 'middle child' in blogs. happened to see this angry little article written by an equally angry girl. found it quite typical of the 'middle kid syndrome' in singapore

Despite the notoriety of the man who has been labelled evil by countless historians and even movie-makers, this group of Secondary 3 students from a school here thinks it's a good idea to be associated with him.
The group leader, a tanned and bespectacled 15-year-old girl, said: 'We like him."...
this horrifies me

Threez Frame pleads for legislation against local people who participate in child-sex tourism...
These are CHILDREN we are talking about. ... These girls may be told their going to be doing sales. They just don't realise they're also the product they're selling. ... These girls, who if they were living in Singapore, would be pulling on their uniforms and getting on the bus to school and studying for their Primary Three streaming, are kept in cages, and every 15 minutes some FULL GROWN MAN is going to come along, tap them on the shoulder, take them to a room and rape them.
