The thin line between education and propaganda

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! said:

Reading what Law Minister K Shanmugam is proposing for our education system, the alarm bells went off in my head. He’s proposing to educate Singapore students about politics, and while he has added a disclaimer that he is not in favour of championing a political system over another, it seems to me that ultimately, the aim is to influence students to think that the liberal democracy practised in Europe and America is not applicable to a city-state such as Singapore.

The entries in the said essay are far more interesting, just my humble opinion. I am a big fan of Hemmingway and the whole idea of a solitary fisherman going up against a mighty fish is something that can always pull on the heart strings.

Dont know much of the Darkness in the social political scene, but I am very familiar with the stories he regularly writes.

I have a new year wish. I hope the fisher comes home safely with his catch. I hope unlike the old man in the sea in Hemmingway's story, he would never have to lament the passing of his catch or fight off the sharks.

I hope he sees light wherever he is in his tiny little boat in the vast ocean. I will pray for him.
