Association of Bloggers (Singapore)

Eastcoastlife said:

Association of Bloggers (Singapore) is a non-profit association. It is dedicated to promoting, protecting and educating its members; supporting the development of blogging as new media. I hope eventually it can help to provide legal assistance to bloggers too. It is a professional body for bloggers in Singapore.

I have visited the president's (personal?) website and read the comments there. I can't help but feel that something is not right about this. It's kind of happening too fast when compared to a typical progression of a blogger-initiated endeavour. I am not sure, but I also do not see bloggers who have actually made a name for themselves being part of this.

It's too corporate and gimmicky to be a truly social enterprise and comes across as a gimmick or angle to leverage (exploit?) on the growing blogging community (and its potential).

Also, the comments are all overtly positive with the exception of CNEIL who asks some difficult questions (in a very neutral tone) which I felt were also not answered directly (or truthfully?) by the president of this association.

Perhaps I am wrong in my analysis and judgement, but the jury is still out on this one - tread carefully before pumping $110 ($50 entrance fee + $60 annual fee) in these difficult times...
