The Bugis California Fitness Centre Report

»

Paul Delima gives a detailed report on the new California Fitness Centre in Bugis:

When I arrived there, I saw the signs, advertising "75% off enrollment" and "Only $58 monthly", a quick calculation in my head revealed that would work out to $2 bucks a day if I went everyday, compared to $2.50 for the Tampines per entry. "This is pretty good," I thought to myself, "why didn't I join earlier"

Find out how he changed his mind after unravelling a vast conspiracy.

Hey Guys,

You have the right to cancel if you have completed your contract period. If you are a recent member, you can make use of the Singapore contract law clause
" Within 3 working days of signing up a contract, the customer can terminate the contract by informing the supplier in writing that they do no wish to continue the contract." This 3 days is valid only if the customer has been properly informed of the 3 days cooling period. What I mean is, if you are not informed of such a cooling period, you can extend it upto months. Normally the fitness club consultants never inform this clause, which means you can give this notice even if you are 3-6 months into membership. The best reason: you were forced to join the club with high pressure sales tactics by the membership consultants. This works. It really does!!! Please try it. I can assure you, you can get rid of this california fitness headache for life!!!

its a pain, i know that you know it too!

The key is, they will try to threaten you by saying that they will send legal notices etc. etc., but trust me there is nothing they can do. You can proceed to go to CASE or the Small Claims Tribunal. The history says that everyone who has approached CASE or Tribunal has managed to get out of the problem.

I did too. My case was solved after I told them I am willing to face any legal notice from them. I told them the moment I get a notice, I will go to court and make sure they will be the one with the damaged reputation.

They called me from the head office of theirs a couple of weeks later and warned me again of legal actions. I didnt give in and I warned them not to call me again but send the notice if they have the guts.

Three weeks later after a few calls, a lady called me with a nice manner telling me they will void of all the pending payments to them if I continue to become a full time member from then on.

I just asked them to go to hell.

Trust me, they cant put you in jail for signing up their membership. The key is to fight back. If we become scared, they will take advantage. They will send their own notice letters with big red letters, don't be scared. They cant do anything legally.

If you face such situation, just send a registered post stating that you do not wish to be communicated with and will take legal action if they send any more notices.

Trust me guys, my case is resolved and my money is safe.

Burn California in Hell!

Read more about California Fitness in the Wikipedia.com. They mention about other people fighting cases and winning against them.

Hope they shut down their business soon. Hope they crash and have no money at all!

So cruel is their business model!

Hi Benny,

Will they send legal notice?

Thnx

Oh my gosh. this same thing happened to me. i only went to CF Orchard because i was invited for a free trial which i neveractually got. Not all parts of the contract were discussed, you'd be shocked if it were! this guy named trevor kept pressuring us to take a personal trainer. we tried refusing but he just kept talking and talking until it was about 10pm and we were tired and we had to give in. the worst part was that they kept on saying that "this is cheap" blah blah with them looking at you as if you were trying to shake money off them. My friend and I already said no but they kept pushing. i tried terminating without even ever going there or using their facilities. i got nothing from them. i never used the equipment, took a shower, watched tv or anything... except BULLSHIT that is! when i asked about the termination they told me i had to pay 300. when i went there to pay they were asking for 800!!! what the hell!?!!? when i said i didnt want to pay that amount the guy said they'd forward my case to the membership committee to discuss of i could terminate. I mean, the customer does not want to do business with you anymore so who are YOU to decide if i want to go to the gym or not. They're just applying delaying tactics so that they can get more money. CALIFORNIA FITNESS IS SUCH A SCAM. They make you feel that they are on your side but they're money monsters.

Hi Benny,

Count me in.

What is the method to terminate my contract? I just talked to the consultant that i want to terminate my contract and the guy keep pressuring me with a lot of excuses and in the end i find myself not able to talk anymore and end up continuing with the contract.
I also talked to the recptionist in Orchard about cancelation procedure and she refer me back to a consultant.

Benny,

would you kindly elaborate on where to find that "within 3 working days of signing up a contract, the customer can terminate the contract by informing the supplier in writing that they do no wish to continue the contract."

Although I did some research in Singaporean contract law, I couldn't find anything. But then I am not a Singaporean lawyer.

Thanks,
Arthur
