Obviously SMRT has not thought about the consequences about such enforcement. Sad to say, it is almost discriminatory to diabetic patients under such scenarios!

I agree with the writer. SMRT should be more flexible with this rule.

What if our throat feels dry, so dry that we feel like vomiting, will we get fined for drinking plain water too? Or they would rather we vomit on the train?

yes roger foo, while you fine this lady for a sweet, you let the 353243 morons who wolf down currypuffs, burgers, bubble tea etc get away with it. well done.

What a load of bullshit ! If the diabetic needs to eat a sweet, eat it somewhere else. This country is full of bullshit people asking for exceptions to the rule.
Next thing we will see people with bladder problems asking for the right to pee anywhere on the MRT platform.

To all you "compassionate" people, go screw yourselves.

pls go to msia or other country.
their mrt there can eat sweet.

Oh my gosh. Look at what the shooters are talking about. In the first place, by being on board a SMRT train, you are subject to certain rules and regulations. Our trains are relatively clean and odour free compared to the train or subways of some countries where eating, drinkging, or smoking are allowed, right. Keep the regulations, I say.

File it together with the "I jaywalk cuz got stomach ache", "I double-park to 打包 makan" excuses.

The blog entry inconveniently left out the rest of the news article, which disclosed that this was a crackdown after SMRT's previous counseling approach proved ineffective, with offenses doubling in just 2 years instead. (Plenty of such folks already slammed after their acts got filmed & uploaded.)

Comeuppance, lah. Happened to me too: caught thrice for jaywalking the same road I've crossed for 20-plus years, each time due to a clampdown after everyone got too complacent & behaved like 没政府. Lesson: Don't get caught. Otherwise, curse or suck thumb lah. What for go online & spam someone for just doing his job?

Easier said than done.

The Dalai Lama is coming to the University of Northern Iowa next year to share his views on education in a global society, the university announced Tuesday. The 74-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate will visit the university in Cedar Falls on May 18. It’s his first trip to Iowa.
