One-Eyed Dragon Meets Tangs - Too Much Of A Coincidence

Am I the only one who finds the (alleged) donation of a hanged murderer's kidney to a rich tycoon a little bit too convenient?

Since a rich man with abundant wealth at his disposal that enables him to make all sorts of clandestine arrangements if he so wishes, is involved, AND who has been convicted of buying a kidney, to boot; shouldn't the authorities look at this very closely and find out if any compensation was (or will be) made?

Trackback from Independent investigation needed over Tang's kidney transplant:

Or do we want to reinforce the belief that in Singapore there is one law for the rich and another for the rest of us?...

was there ever any doubt??

Even if there is no doubt, what to do?

Hey, thanks guys....

Looks like 2009 will be a more 'colourful' year then 2008 by the looks of the first 2 weeks alone!

Question - if it is the intention of the Government to allow the rich and / or elites to get away with organ trading, why did they investigate and prosecute Tang to begin with ? Why invite all the publicity, when they could have quietly let the earlier arrangement under which he would be the Indon's organs to proceed ?

Simple. Shit hit the fan.

Nobody will press for the answers when the 'chosen ones' are invovled, but the 'right' answers still need to be given - for plausible deniability, seeming incorruptibility etc. In this instance, the silly Indon might have botched it all up - giving the authorities no option but to investigate. Then, he probably became too frightened and spilled the beans wholesale during the investigation - coming totally clean with the details, facts and situation.

Consequently, there was no alternative but to prosecute the tycoon - and solve the 'problem' by giving him a metaphoric tap on the wrist. The system is engineered in a certain way but the players need to play their parts.

For the organ transplant to go ahead, the Indon needed to demonstrate that he knew and was related to the tycoon, necessitating the tycoon's identifiable information to be made known to the Indon by the trader-middleman. So if the Indon had said "I do not know this man at all", the tycoon's declaration that this man was a relative would be false - hence, an offence.

If the situation did not call for a 'commoner' to be endowed with identifiable information, things would have probably turned out much more differently - without an iota of publicity sans the blogosphere.
