3. If Wikipedia were to be believed, various legal battles had cost him $1,095,000.00!...

I salute him. He stood up for his beliefs and rights.

A very sad and dark day indeed.. the passing of JBJ hits me really hard, much more than that of the so called 'fathers of the country'. Those people were simply doing their job. But JBJ - he stood for his beliefs and the rights of Singaporeans.

They may have taken away your property and sullied your name but they can never take away your spirit. Rest in peace, old warrior.

And the red sun sinks at last into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior without the sound of guns

Suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous lawsuits.
Torn, battered yet unyielding.
Still crying out for the sake of the silent masses,
who can see yet choose to look the other way.
... for the sake of moving on.
for a nation that traded it's soul for money.
A battle lost long ago.
Rest in the peace JBJ,
You will be missed

you are a moron...commenting on something y0u have utterly no idea about.

On a side note,
J B Jeyaretnam will be missed...He gave credibility to the opposition. Someone who honestly fought for Singapore's future and not just for the popular vote..unlike Chee Soon Juan...
God bless...You will be missed...A true hero to the end.
A sad day for Singapore...PAP wins again...:(

Trackback from PM Lee, SM Goh send condolences to JB Jeyaretnam's family:

Mr Jeyaretnam sought by all means to demolish the PAP and Singapore's system of government. Unfortunately this helped neither to build up a constructive opposition nor Singapore's Parliamentary tradition....

Did he sought by all means to demolish Singapore's system of government ? or did he simply tried to restore the government to what it was supposed to be - the servant of the people. Towards a more caring society- An idea later hijacked by GCT after the reign of LKY.

Demolish the PAP? if only.

A true patriot. PAP's lawsuits have guaranteed democracy in Singapore will always be suppressed. With measures like million-dollar pay for incompetent ministers, 21% rise in power bills, their futures sold for pennies, Singaporeans has lost a voice that fought against the White terror.

"Perhaps its a lesson for all of us. That we will never be what we are without these opposition parties. They indirectly made Singapore into what we are today. Rest in peace, JBJ, Singapore is indebted to you."

I am saddened not only by his death, but also ashamed that I walked past him countless of times at places like centrepoint and city hall mrt selling books, without even batting an eyelid at what he was doing; without knowing that he was doing something great for this country. Rest in peace sir, and i sincerely hope that in your passing, others will know of what noble and selfless things you have done for us, and value your legacy.

JBJ was an inspiration to many. He could have retired a long time ago; but he kept on battling for a just and noble cause. He wasn't in it for the money or for any personal gain. Rest in peace sir
