For lack of databases.

Joel Tan said:

Maybe MINDEF really doesn't have tie-ups with MOE, and maybe MOE doesn't have dealings with universities (it certainly does with Junior Colleges), but I think it might be more than just prudent to have some sort of a gateway between the three. It's just so bizarre that with all the personal data we have to submit to various databases over the course of our lives, something as simple as proving your student status eludes the power of MINDEF and inter-ministry data sharing.

Yah, and if they start sharing databases, privacy advocates will start making noise.

You can't have it both ways. Either ministries freely share data and Government knows everything about you --- which is quite a frightening thought --- or you provide data whenever a ministry has a specific need for it. In Europe, they have decided on the latter approach. Personally I am inclined towards the latter, though it is more costly (for the taxpayer) and inconvenient.

Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it!

So you want ERP linked to Police linked to Traffic Police linked to CPF linked to IRAS linked to MOH linked to MOE and everything linked to everythin else??

Gahmen already knows everything about you. And you are now requesting them to linked all the databases together.

Way to go, smart move..... NOT!

Think more, shoot off less.

Please note that Singapore does not have any law to protect your privacy!!

So, don't be stupid and (beg to) open pandora's box. IF it is not already opened that is.
