China has over 1 TRILLION USD in reserves. 1 trillion USD.

US$1, 000, 000, 000, 000

Aren't reserves supposed to be used when there is a need?

I don't think they need your donations.

Are you implying that the rich countries/people do not deserve help? Did you measure the income of each quake victim?

Charity is also a form of showing solidarity and pain-sharing, to show that someone else care when a person is in hardship, regardless of their previous income/savings.

Go ahead then, donate to the rich!

Did you donate to those people who were hit by hurricane Kartina? I bet not.

Did you also urge others to avoid donating to Katrina? Your care for hard-earned Singaporean $$$ is "generous".

The point is this They build Dams, that prevent transport of rescue personnel, that post a greater danger.
Another point: remember remember the Tang Shan earthquake I see no reason why (75000?) the dead are to be forgotten.
While We are at that what about the 1989 Tian An Men massacre.
Now I only see blind loyalty or it is fake loyalty.

This is not a loyalty issue. Dam building, Tang Shan and Tiannamen are independent events. Why are you using those events to justify your call to resist helping people who are in suffering? Perhaps, you are the blinded by your own anger of unrelated issues. The charity call for donation is to ease the pain of quake victims, not to support dam building, address past disasters or justify political stance.

After reading your comment I decided not to donate. I will donate to Cyclone Nargis victims. They deserve it more.

Of course everybody offers their sympathy for the Schezuan earthquake victims. I don't expect anybody to be cheering that the victims are the "mainlanders".

The Chinese government knew of the earthquake in advance, but did not pass it onto its people. To anybody who disputes this claim, I heard of warnings on the news at least half a day before the disaster. I think the time would've been more than enough to evacuate the area.

Did you watch the news? Even during the vital period of rescue - i.e. within a few days after the disaster - rescuers were doing so by hand!

This is not an issue of money, but of how effective rescue efforts have been. No matter how much money we donate now, we can't undo the number of deaths caused by the delayed rescue efforts.

By donating, we can only do as much as we can; and that is to help out those who have survived.

P.S. And on the topic of money:

See the ch 8 news The next worse situation is that the dam will burst due to rainfall.
They hide the actual death toll on Tang Shan earth quake and Tian An Men massacare.
Yes it is a loyalty issue if they really care they should have apply for leave and go back to help with rescue work instead of raising money when Charity shows and donating to red cross could have done the same. So i say it is fake loyalty.
And What about cyclone Nargis in myanmar there are native chinese there too?
I have donated to Red cross international.Did you?

Posted by localized multi view* on 27 May, 2008 - 8:11pm

Wow...did donation to Red Cross entitle you to be self-righteous and tell mainland Chinese to take leave and return for rescue work? Have you confused MSF with the Communist government?

Considering the buildings cannot withstand (a lot of them) the earth quake Where does the problem lies.
Donating money is useless they will just take the money and invest in stock exchange. And build beancurd buildings again. Learn from Singapore govt and not be corrupted.
How many children died because they scrimp on building materials.
It's corruption at it's worst and then don't forget there are also Cyclone Nargis victims too.
So donation to red cross is better don't agree about the charity show though.
Who care about the Chinese who have trillion in reserves.

This needs repeating.

I have decided not to decide too. The Chinese government has more than enough for their people.
