Such a dangerous person is out....what to do? Mistakes do happen everywhere....just we make less but important is Our govt are honest to announce and admit to the public the slip up. U cannot find such honesty in our neighbours....Maybe even there is a slip out (intentionally or not?), they may not even know or chose not to know.
At least we knew our Govt and the system is honest to us.
Our neighbours is just Like edison or cecilia who are known to be bad....so any mistakes is OK. Wheras our image is so high up...any sligh mistakes the whole world made noise and jeers.
we as a s'porean should stand together as one and not let this sway our condident..
Remember one of the NDP song go like this...When people say s'pore cannot make it, but we did.
Some good example is like Ah How ( wang na case) and the one eyed assasinator who escape to foreign land but still need to come back here to face the music.

Just give M. Salamt some freah air for some days and he will be caught.
Maybe he want to greet the ex-PM of one SEA country who just return to his homeland to face corruption charge and later x over to go visit another neihghbour who has election campaign till this weekend. So, by this Sunday, he will return (by all means) to Whitley DB . Cheers.

I think you are giving undue credit to the Singapore Government. The reason why Singapore has no choice but to reveal this is because there are other stakeholders - in this case Indonesia - who knows that he is in Singaporean custodian.

Even if the above was not so, revealing this is not so much a measure of transparency in my opinion. And your comment on our neighbours seem a little sensitive. =)

is the country you said is corrupted captured Mas Selamat..
and the country you said is "at least honest" let him escaped....

make sense.

You have pointed out correctly that people do makes mistakes. Another good example is the numerous medical errors by proffessional like Med Doctors. Also Professional like Lawyers appropriated with Clientele's money.

What I feel the jailbreak was due to complacency of the people. It is a good effort to involve the public on the lookup of MSK. Many pairs of eyes are better than just rely on the law enforcement officers

Perhaps Mas never existed in the first place! On a more serious note, was Mas Selamat ever formally charged with anything or has he simply been under detention for the past few years?

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 3 March, 2008 - 12:00pm

It is a ploy.... deliberately release him so that the other fishes can be captured as well.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 3 March, 2008 - 4:49pm

The police wants to arrest more members of the JI so they intentionally made security loose so Mas Selamat would escape and link up with the other JI members in Indonesia. The police would be tracking all his movements and will capture all the top JI leaders when Mas Selamat leads the police to them. This is a very clever ploy by the Singaporean anti-terrorist forces.

Posted by Shawn Chia* on 3 March, 2008 - 5:05pm

I don't think the police would interntionally let him escape and make such a big issue out of this so that they can "catch other JI members". If so, it is a stupid tactic. Now that everyone in SG is looking for him, do you think he would even have the chance to go look for JI members? Honestly, I think its a blotch in security on part of the police. The best solution, in my opinion, is to all the suspects currently held under ISA be given a trial. If proven guilty of terrorism, put them in maximum security at Changi.

One concern about having trials for terrorists is that a trial will inevitably reveal what we know about all the other terrorists. (Recall that the main purpose of a trial is that it is held in public - otherwise there is no point having a trial.)

When anti- terrorism forces get an intelligence lead there is always a dilemma - should we bust the guy now, or should we follow him closely and see if he leads us to someone else, even if it runs the risk of allowing him to escape.

The main reason is that we are not paying Wong Kan Seng enough --- $2 million is too little money for him to do his job. Ditto for all those superscale highflyers in MHA. We should double their salaries and the problem will just go away.

They should surgically implant micro chips in every terrorist heart when they are imprisoned. The chip can by tracked by satelite using Global Positioning System (GPS). As the chips are surgically implanted, they cannot remove the chip themselves (only highly qualified heart surgeon can perform such high tech operation). Also special capsules can be implanted in them. When they escape, the capsule can be remotely activated and tranquilise the terrorist for 24 hours, giving sufficientlt time to track them down.

Sorry buddy.....the chips are going to be of no use.If black magic was used than no matter what kind of latest or advanced technlogy is incorporated it ain't gonna work. The energy vibes would be far too strong to render these chips usless..something like a strong EMF which is known to fry circuitries.

The chip will be coated with the blood of a true black dog. So black magic will not work.

LOL!

i think u have been seeing too many holywood movies,.....are u one of the nerdy ass,who think's he know's all...Don't forget we are surronded muslim nations,.....if in the event, your so call surgery in the heart fail's.........u will see large number of JI dying...it easily intensify things....ant-govt sentiment wil run high....as govt are killing muslims...it will lead mass recruitment of JI or who know's what group?....then bomb blast, will be come a daily affair.....we can afford to be too paranoid...the sg govt have actually done good job in countering terrosim...by using family, religious groups to console them...many have repented and been released...of course there are hard-core case's like mas selmat...we must move on,from here....not to get too excited,or finger-pointing...

Posted by stay_clam* on 4 March, 2008 - 5:12pm

It will besecret operations lar, operated only on hard core terrorists. Only those who ever escaped and survived will live to tell.

i doubt so...most proably he will be mechanic all his life..given that he is a malay (second-class citizens)...limited education...easily side-lined as inferior being...how many scientist can u see in the A* instituation...? none,to my knowledge...maybe there is one or two....who care's....the point is genius is not memorising from text and getting a degree with a scholarship....is doing unthinkable.....the will to go all the way.....break all barriers....I certainly agree with u,we could have utilised man of such a calibre..if we are not too racist...I guess that's meant to me....god has created him as our enemy...a genius one indeed...who will most likely will come back with vengance

Posted by Anonymous Coward who screwed your sis* on 4 March, 2008 - 7:42pm

WE ALL KNOW IT IS THE MISTAKE OF THE MINISTRY , THE HEAD FROM MINISTER LEVEL TO PRISON HEAD OF THESE SHOULD BE REPLACED WITHOUT A THOUGHT . THE ONES WHOM WERE IN CHARGER FOR THAT DAY AT THE PRISON SHOULD RECEIVE THEIR JAIL TERM. THE SAME TYPE MAS SELAMAT WAS IN FOR.
GOD BLESS SINGAPORE

Posted by RETIRED POLICE* on 5 March, 2008 - 9:22am

MAS is not a 2nd class citizen. Spore is not a racist. those who excel will have a place no matter what race, language or religion (remeber our pledge? Or even our NDP songs ?

The world is targetting terrorist....no particular religion or race.

Mas is not a genious. No clear minded person will think he is a genius.
For example is the past those academically not so good form the majority in triad becos they have sense of belonging there while they feel discriminate to those better than him.
Now, in 21st century of internet age, more and more teenagers who are weak in study turn to online game like maple story/world of war craft and excelled there. They feel there is a place when they can get recoginised and leave their study to spend more time online...........

Same for those like minded like MAS, he felt the world has gone further and cannot keep pace. He found a place in JI where he have a sense of belonging. But as the paper mentioned, he once betrayed his members/followers/leader by disclosing info when he is caught in Indonsia jail in order to bargain a lesser sentence.
This is called Genius??? Or???? U decide!

I don think JI will welcome him......maybe other groups...... His life at risk if he gone back.

But let stand up for S'pore. May one day (soonest) MAS selamat will return here to face the music. There is no place safer than in Whiley DB.

If Mas Selamat returns, he will be bearing a gift. Maybe a carbomb on Jurong Island, the Surpreme Court of even Parliment. This time it's personal.

Seriously, If Mas is no genius, then all those Yale educated scholars of the ISD have just proven themselves to be a bunch of neglectful incompetents. How else could a limping, short 49 year old man slip away in broad daylight.

In case you forgot, Ah How came back because his dad persuaded him to surrender, (personally, I'd tell him to hoof it to Thailand and disappear there. I'd even transfer money) and the one eyed dragon was nabbed by the Malaysian police.

In short, when these people displayed SOME form of thinking and inteligience, slipping away doesnt seem so difficult suddenly.

Posted by Anonymous* on 5 March, 2008 - 8:44pm

ahhh yaaa pun chance PAP government, tolong mas selamat come home and promise not to torture him in whitley DB.

u say that he betrayed his pals...or JI..whatever?...This statement is coming form sg-govt newspaper....if he made a deal..it sure sucksl...as he didn't benefit from anything....indoensia extradicated him back to sg......whether JI exist or not...it does not matter...belive me..when i tell u there are millions and millions of like-minded people like him just across our shores, who will be inspired by him..after his escape....he can establish new group and call ii dick asses..who cares..JI is just a name...if he is caught that's good.....but i am sure this is not the end of it....

Posted by sgoldman* on 7 March, 2008 - 4:02pm

In olden days, these people were being tatoo on their face... Maybe the govt should consider doing the same to these dangerous pal, so that they are easily spotted if they manage to escape from jail!!

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 9 March, 2008 - 4:15pm

I dun think he escaped...maybe there's a conspiracy behind all this..hmm

Posted by Powman* on 13 March, 2008 - 9:45pm

I really think Singapore will not stage or have any ploy behind their backs. I don't think the Police let him out on purpose. He is a dangerous man. No one would take that risk. Letting him go for a motive it would not have been a good choice because he could plan more strategies to terrorize. Being a small country, Singapore shouldn't take that risk. I'm sure it was a lapse. But I know the Police force is trying their best to hunt down the released. let's hope he will be caught and sent back to justice, whether or not he chooses to turn over a new leaf.

Posted by Forte* on 17 March, 2008 - 11:57pm

they killed him by accident during questioning time.

suddenly his famiLEE members turn up for visitation.

so, to cover up, they said he escaped. All these search are wayang to cover up.

Its a matter of timing to release his decomposed body into the sea for it to be discovered.

a clean job done.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 March, 2008 - 12:33am

sorry about this

MISTAKE ? RAN FROM TOILET ? CMON LA R U A 12 YEAR OLD KID BELIEVE THAT CRAP?

cmon la its a conspiracy..

hmm my 2 cent worth.. i think mas walked out of the toilet.. through the front gate.. and maybe the guard still give him money and ordered a cab for him.

and .. the govt tell us he ran through the toilet

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 21 March, 2008 - 3:03am

Mas stay in Whiley DB , not changi. Hence, security looser or rather too relax rules.

Oh.....today news another J team memeber now become resident of Whitey DB.
Hopefully, gahmen now classfisied the new resident properly and placed under max security instead of Whitely DB .

Maybe must tag all residents , just like in emporium where merchandise are tab and will beep if exit w/out paying.

Wish the garden city peace and harmony.

May all garden city residents live happily under one roof and understand each other better irregardless of race, langauage or religion

Everybody's talking about instant ORD for the guy who catches Mas Selamat Kastari. Why don't we have instant ORD for our very clever Home Affairs Minister who allowed this to happen?

Posted by aaronkwok* on 24 March, 2008 - 2:13pm

Selamat Mas will never be found ... the likelihood is, he died while being tortured. To admit that he died on our turf will invite a backlash and a flood of fervent terrorists into our presence. To say that he has escaped, leaves it open to ambiguity - small price of international mockery to pay, considering that an invasion of clever terrorists can do us more harm, than to 'admit' that he is missing due to 'complacency'. Chances are, he will never be caught. Unless there are videos (even then, they can be digitally doctored) to prove that Selamat Mas is alive and has re-joined his brothers-in-the-dark, he is dead, till proven otherwise.

Instant ORD is just a dream. As a NSF or NS men, let serve our full term .
Making good use of the time and knowledge aquired during NSF time should be the main target and not instant ORD.
Years later, when u think back, u will cherish the time u spent with your NSF friends.
Do use NSF as a place for network for future working/business/lesiure etc .
What u learn in NSF like teamwork, obey rules/regulation, work well with the leader will helps you in real work life. NSF life will one way or another molded u for tougher working life outside.
Do treasure your NSF time and later NS men time.

4 weeks already, still no sight of him. If he escaped and been hiding in the forest, I'm sure he's dead by now. Python snake must have had him for dinner.

I think it's a conspiracy lah. If the family came and found out he was beaten up to death, you think the Humanitarian group is not going to make noise is it? Already that time when SG hung the Australian boy becoz of drugs, the Humanitarian group make noise and lots of websites banned SG visitors, SG's name was tarnished for being too strict and lack compassion.

So far, the family hasn't been interviewed, right... Would love to know what they have to say.

I'm not ruling out black magic, but not everyone's black magic is that powderful lah... God is more powerful. If this guy really is still alive, I'm sure God would have given more clues to his whereabouts. I just wished the media would update us more often. Every day I sien read the same bs story.

Public beware a terorist has escaped. His name is Mas Selamat. But public is advised to remain calm as he is not known to be a threat to the public. Hmmm!! A terorist fugitive but not a threat to the public. Honestly you ppl can understand what to make of the statement?? Haiyah!! I think the Davinci Code is easier to crack than trying to even attempt to comprehend the statement. Put it this way lah. A dangerous hungry lion just escaped from the zoo but public should remain calm as the dangerous and hungry lion is not a threat. Understand???? Hmmm??? Makes me wonder what our govt think of us the ordinary ppl, layman, small ppl, non degree holder ppl. Haiyah!! the public in general lah...Wonder!Wonder!Wonder!! Wonderful!! I tell u. Dun u think??

Maybe a prisoner exchange for a kidnap victim??

Till now, I used to think that Selamat was brilliant. But with my perception of the efficiency of police officers (due to some recent incidents), I am sure, Selamat is just an average guy. I would have written much better English than the police officer (who was doing a report for me) when I was 5 yrs old (I dont come from an English-speaking country). It definitely tells something about the competence of the officers.
