Ah Meng died this morning

Alvinology said:

Singapore’s beloved primate at the Singapore Zoo past away this morning due to old age. She was approximately 5o years old - equivalent to a centurion in human years.

Rest in peace, Ah Meng. Singapore will never forget you and the contributions you have made to our tourist industry. It is sad that she’s gone, but at least she left behind a huge family with four children and six grandchildren.

RIP Ah Meng... You'll not be forgotten!

RIP, Ah Meng. She may not belong to our species, but she sure deserves a place as one of those who've helped place Singapore on the tourist maps.

Trackback from YoungJedi: Ah Meng left us for a better place called heaven. :

I know her name since the day I was born. As a kid, going to Zoo, I remembered shouting excitedly: "Ah Meng, Ah Meng!", even though I don't know which Orang Utan is her. All looked so alike....

Same here, I enjoyed going to the zoo to visit the monkeys. Cause I born in the year of monkey also.

Ah Meng, RIP.

Found this clip: http://web.ndp.org.sg/multimedia/video/filmlets/meng.html

Done last year, was voiced by her keeper, for a National Day filmlet.

She has been called home to God. In our hearts, we can rejoice that she is now with Jesus in heaven, at home with her Heavenly Father. Let us pray for comfort and blessings for her whole family during this time. May the Lord our Saviour brings to her family Peace, Strength and Happiness. While we all miss her, our joy is full when we realize she is now with Jesus forever and is praying for us all.

are you trying to be sarcastic or something?

she's just a monkey!

To be pedantic, she's more accurately an ape.

In any case, the idea of heaven being open to non-human beings will sure ruffle a few feathers among some of the religious folks. *shrugs*

I ate chicken for dinner tonight I take comfort in the fact that the chicken I ate has been called home to God and rejoice that she is now with Jesus in heaven, at home with her Heavenly Father. May the Lord our Saviour bring to her family Peace, Strength and Happiness.

Given much of the Christian rhetoric against evolution, it is unlikely that Ah Meng would've agreed to have been converted to Christianity.

I disagree. It is overwhelmingly likely that Ah Meng was a Christian. In fact, 99.9% of the world's Christians are monkeys --- as in monkey see, monkey do.

great to see the best of christian bashing and country bashing comes at the expense of a dead orang utan.

my oh my.

ah meng deserves more than to be lump together with christians!
stop insulting her....

HOW DARE YOU!!!

I agree with him.She belongs to the Christian family

I never got a chance to know and see Ah Meng but i feel sad when both humans and animals die

Dear Tandoori Chicken,

I'm sure you feel this way because Ah Meng was loved much more than you'll ever be in your entire, pathetic life. Get lost and go piss on yourself.

To Chinese helicopter,
This remains one of life's unanswerable questions, same as why you have no brains. Or why you're a loser.
When you insult Ah Meng, you insult an entire nation of Singaporeans who love her.

Back to your corner, brainless!

Hello, In what way did I insult Ah Meng? I was just merely asking a question out of curiosity. Surely there is an answer for naming her Ah Meng. But I must admitted that I don't have any feeling toward Ah Meng as I don't know her well.
