Al Jazeera on Singapore’s Singtel MioTV

»

James Chia talks about the Al Jazeera which has received permission to be broadcast in Singapore on Singtel’s pay-TV service, MioTV.

Shocking enough? It seems Al Jazeera is not going to be another ordinary TV station seeking to increase its viewership base worldwide and their coming to Singapore is going to make a big difference to the already well-controlled mainstream media. Al Jazeera is certainly going to influence the way we see the world with more war news and gory scenes, and with more controversial issues...

there there, typical singaporean behavior, running down anything remotely local. please lah, CNA is one of the better channels i've watched in singapore and elsewhere. too bad you don't enjoy it like many others do.

I realized that it would be "Al-Jazeera English Channel", which incidentally was reported to be "fall short of expectations". ...

English channel different from Arabic one, duh. The content is more moderate, cuz they use recorded programming like CNA (&, likewise, providing alternate viewpoints to the Western media). The rolling-news segments are more freewheeling but, at the same time, won't become a jihaddist propagandic tool due to a different target audience, the lost-in-translation factor, as well as a more corporate outlook (broadcasting from various cities worldwide).
