Sinapore Design Festival 07

I’m so glad Singapore embarks onto stuff like that, but do general Singaporeans appreciate design at all? Ask your fellow Singaporean friend “When was the last time design mattered to you?” If the person waited for 5 seconds, then design does not really matter to him / her.

Recommended by Anonymous Coward: "Promote design in Singapore of cause important lah, but Singaporeans I think generally don't appreciate good design, i mean if the design is good, most likely you won't even notice it. But if the design is bad like the recent too high too slippery seats in Orcard MRT, EVERYONE notices."

on the contrary, i think the upper middle class - and there are a lot of them here - like their aesthetics a lot.

i just know they have a lot of $ to put up ads all over the place that don't really say anything at all. once again, bye bye tax dollahs.

Trackback from Vacuum State - Design Follies:

The purpose of this post is to raise your awareness of the design follies around us. Poorly designed buildings use more to achieve less. Ask your architect how much the building he designed weighs and he probably doesn't know. ...

Trackback from Design Sojourn:

Nobody complaints about Good Design because it is seamless. It works so naturally to your needs that you don’t feel it. That to me is good design. If you have the eye to see it, Singapore actually has one of the best designed environments in the world. ...

"Singapore Design Festival" - to me the name sounds so sanctioned and boring. There should be design 'Razzie's here. Now that would be something I'd go for!

Well, I don't think it's a waste of money. The festival sounds like it's going to be quite interesting! And it does feature a wide range of designers, both local and international.

I think it will draw in crowds from outside Singapore as well as attracting local designers. It definitely looks like a positive step forward in cultivating a design conscious society in Singapore.

Anyway, I'm very excited about the Singapore Design Festival. I still haven't decided which events to go for -- there're so many to choose from, over 140 events! Check this out to see what I'm talking about: http://app.singaporedesignfestival.com/event/event_list.asp
