hello, can we have some sense of perspective here? reviewing the youtube clips it appears to me that there is quite a bit of overraction both at ground zero and on this comment board. and honestly, i wonder if the angry uncles doing all that shouting were really there to defend the girls or to give vent to his race hate and his xenophobia. the race of the alleged assailant is completely and utterly irrelevant, and to bring that reflects the inherent xenophobia and small-mindedness of our society. whether america is better or worse has absolutely nothing to do with it. uneducated hokkien speaker, i can understand. And secondly you shouldn't go to the bottom and say only vilify the most malignant ones, and not everybody who deserves it. That way, you will only get people like Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, and everybody else is forgivable. In one sense this is one of the wrong lessons that we learn from the Holocaust, that because so little is comparable to it, you might have a higher threshold for evil.

'the white man' doesnt really mean anything. many of the richest people in the world are, i suppose, 'white', to singaporeans but in reality it's because we've broadened the definition of white to include a lot of groups that many don't consider 'white', and don't self identify as 'white'. russian oil barons, arab sheikhs, jewish financieres.

and of course we don't just vilify the most malignant, like stomp.com.sg, or UBS (which incidently i heard invests in arms firms arming parties in Darfur) but our response must also be proportionate. in this case i thought the crowd's response to private matter involving a specky white guy, his partner, and one of the most irritatingly ditzy bloggers in singapore was disproportionate. and it was disproportionate not because it related to the incident, but beacuse of latent foreign-local tension that needed an outlet for its expression

The majority of angmohs have a superiority complex, even if they deny this outright. Just look at the way they act in our streets, and mock us. America, despite its superpower status, has a history of genocide and slavery against the Red Indians and blacks, whom they called niggers, even now. They have had a wretched history of racism for over 300 yrs. Much of their early wealth came from the blood, sweat and tears of the blacks as they toiled in the sugar cane, cotton and tobacco plantations. It's always the idiots who get the most attention.
