wah slack worx.

And who cares if he is on, or off duty. If doctors, nurses and cabin crew have the decency to ensure that their naps are taken off the eyes of the public whom they serve, can't these officers have done the same. Assuming that the upper decks of the multi-storey carpark are isolated and thus justified for taking forty winks is as erroneous as a man going up thee to pee, spit or litter jst because he thinks no one is watching. For as long as he has broken the code of conduct of the police, he has BROKEN A REGULATION!

In addition, the recognition for a job well done by cops seems vastly outnumbered by the negative remarks they face. Nobody may recognise the efforts if you arrested a bank robber, child molestor, or even terrorist cell member.
But one stupid issue like this.... Well, I leave it up to you. Stomp, tomorrow.sg, sammyboys... and what else? Losing a job or getting condemned in their career over this is too harsh a punishment. I would find it inproportionate to the mistake.
Don't cry for blood to be spilled, guys.

We praise someone for choosing to be a doctor because he has decided to save lives when he dons his white uniform. We praise someone for choosing to be a teacher because he has made a concerted effort to mould the lives of his young charges once he steps into the arena called a classroom. We praise someone for choosing to be a police officer because he has decided to place himself as custodian of the law, as protector of civil liberties, and as watcher of the nation. We DO NOT PRAISE POLICE OFFICERS for arresting a bank robber, child molester, or even a terrorist cell member, because they CHOSE TO DO IT, and our tx money is gone o paying them to do it. So "Dont shoot, I surrender", you got it wrong when you think these men in blue deserve our sympathies just because they are doing their job. Do you praise a banker for keeping your money safe in the bank? Do you recognise the efforts of your toilet cleaner who has made sure your bottom sits on a toilet seat free from piss and shit? Do you praise the McDonald's server because she has made sure that you got the right order of hamburger and french fries? If not, then please, stop requesting for police officers to have their work recognised. Let them have their POLICE DAY and celebrate at Sentosa. For as long as they don their uniform, please realise that they are to upkeep their own code of honour, just as they expect us to upkeep the codes and laws of our country.

Heard from my friends who are still serving as regulars in the force. Turnover rate are pretty high this 2 years. Guess one of the reason is because of the high working hours and pressure faced. No doubt what the 2 officers did is wrong. I guess the general orders have already state it clearly. However, what is in question is the purpose of the person who posted it, and why was this method adopted. Like in my earlier postings in this topic, this reeks of anti police sentiments. You mean the only way of feedback is to shame this 2 fellows by putting their video clips and photos online? Wow. More like shaming than feedbacking.

Mt out of a molehill.
Give his man a break.
You guys may have just blotched up a major bust.

I wonder if you will adopt the same attitude were you to be in dire straits and confronted with a robber, in the very same area and t the very same time when these police officers were to have been patrolling. No sympathies for you should you be robbd, raped and murdered. And all we will say over your coffin is - "Just bad luck, but after all, these cops are only human. Give them a break."

Make sure you never blame any police officer, or any civil servant, for the matter of fact, for lower than expected service, since in your reasoning, it's a small affair blown out of proportion.

Go join the monastery or something, for your bleeding heart reeks of naive compassion, or blase apathy!

Give them a break. These are five years policeman. After five years they will resign.

Great, whith your logic, that's five years of anarchy, mismanagement, and dereliction of duty. One can only pray that I'm not sleeping on their watch.

Your maid who slept while the dust piles up and your toddler is left alone to his own devices is human. Your boss who slept during your presentation and who is charged to look after your welfare by making sure the organisation grows so that you are assured of your monthly salary is human. Your security guard who slept while he is supposed to be on the lookout for potential intruders since you pay monthly fees as a condo resident is human. Your teacher who slept while invigilating your child's examinations where he is duty-bound to ensure that the examinations are run fairly without the potential for cheaters to act is human. Your nurse who slept while on duty to look after your stroke-stricken grandfather who rang the alert bell because he feels uncomfortable in his poop-filled pyjamas-bottoms not cleared by the attending nurse is human. Everybody who has ever borne the badge of duty, responsibility and honour is human. The people who are supposed to do their rounds to check for potential dengue hotspots but who decided they were too tired and napped are also human. The HDB cleaners who slept while they were supposed to clear your void decks and corridors of rubbish are also human. The auditors who 'slept' when they should have been alert to the misappropriation of funds of NKF are also human. The sleepy driver who accidentally veered off the road and knocked down your father and killed him instantly is also human.

So judging by those misplaced sensitivities of some of the bloggers here, we should be all forgiving and not point the finger at anybody but God, who made our bodies the way they seem to be - lethargic, slothful and sedate. (Maybe God was sleeping too when he was given the human body blueprint...but then again, He is NOT HUMAN)

This is so dangerous. It's not just about sleeping on the job. Can you imagine if somebody use a hard object to hit the policeman and snatch his gun away.

The policeman is carrying firearms, and by not being alert, the policeman could endanger many singaporeans if his firearm is stolen/robbed.

I repeat, it's not about sleeping or how long the policeman slept. The policeman should be fired immediately and be charged for failing his duty as well as endagering follow Singaporeans.

However, knowing how the police work, somebody must make the former police report first, else the police won't take action.

I've watched the clip, read the reviews.

Know what? I'm all for posting this behavior up!! The person shooting the clip was able to shoot the license plate, the deck and everything else so slowly and clearly. It only shows that if these policemen (2 ok) have let their guards down, enough for anyone to smash the windows and take their guns.

They are not commen folks doing commen jobs, and cannot be forgiven for sleeping on the job. For those who say that posting this is harsh. Don't compare their job with an IT personnel (for e.g.). Because it's not fair. This is their attitude towards their job. Can you imagine how "helpful" they will be if you're being robbed?

And serve them right if they are fired.

Just stop all this arguing to and fro about this poor guys taking a nap...Just knock it off...and all Singaporean pls get a life and have somthing better to do..like thinking of how to make more money and less breaking someone else rice bowl!!

Must find out the facts b4 posting negative comments. What if there is a truly justifable reason for him to do that. Can't think of any right now but not trying to be sarcastic. Was in PNS 2 1/2 yr b4. Most male Singaporean have, either SAF/SPF/SCDF. The working hours are realli jialat, unless you dont count a "Official 12 hours, Unofficially 14-15 hours" shift as jialat. Give that guy a break. Anyway, posting his face and NPC was uncalled for. Reeks of "anti-police" sentiments, dun u agree. what if u cost him his job, ever thot of that?

Aiyah, I've gave up! I remember calling the police post to help me to check on a car that was illeagly park outside my house. 2 hours and no respond. So did any police turn up? No lah! Now i know already, haha, they're sleeping!

The reason why Singapore sleep peacefully at night becoz they are sleeping during the day

Posted by PP* on 25 July, 2007 - 10:42pm

I smell personal vendettas and vengeance. Because the police has done me wrong, I am right to do them wrong too...interesting. I see many policemen kooning, so I must arrow one of them. Who cares whether it's his first or not! No my fault what.

Don't you think you guys are a little too harsh and unreasonable?

Aren't policemen merely human?

Who is there to take a pic of them when they risk their lives, when they stay up overnight, when they take abuse from the disgruntled public?

A photo doesn't show what happened before and after. Who knows what is really happening just from the pic? Perhaps he is not feeling well? Perhaps he had a really rough night the day before because of his family?

Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

Trackback from Who Needs Justice When You Have Laws?:

You kinda wonder if the police could’ve done a more thorough investigation before putting some poor smuck in jail. Apparently not because some of them are busy doing this....

maybe, the moral of the story is...they can sleep you can't lor..HAHAHAHHAHAHA

HAHhahahahHAHAHHAHAHahahahha

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 25 July, 2007 - 10:34am

I cringe every time a trailer for Crime Watch comes on and sprout lines such as:-

"See how the Police solve the murder in 24 hours."

Maybe the people won't be so critical if the Police stop boasting about themselves at every opportunity.

jialat, this guy hanta kaki liao

everyone makes mistakes.
either pay for your mistakes like some, or get away with it like many others

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 25 July, 2007 - 1:24am

Leong15,
because the gov force people to act in bad faith ! That's why ! Ask yourself if there is a quota required to summon ppl for policemen ? Ask any policemen. The bad guys are not the person doing the job but the assHo#le forcing policy and quota !

If you are the policemen having to feed your own family, and been force to summon ppl because of quota, what would you do ?

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 10:59pm

everyone makes mistakes. think we should live and let live.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 8:11pm

Remember that the next time the cops issue you, or your family member, a summons for a very minor traffic infringement (say, crossing a solid white line) for 4 demerit points and $130.

Why should a member of the SPF, in uniform no less and out in public, be given a second chance when they themselves do not practice that?

What we put up on the web reflects on ourselves. No doubt the policeman should not sleep on the job (maybe he wasn't), there is a possibility that he was really tired or even sick and dosed off unintentionally. In this case, putting his picture up might just cost him his job. Regardless of motivation, not considering the deeper implications for others is just blatant selfishness, for a moment's cheap thrill.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 7:04pm

According to the linked-within-the-link original STOMP report, the fella who took the photo and video noted that this khooning-in-one-corner was a regular occurrence. I neither think it is selfish, nor a cheap thrill in any way, if this was the case.

This policeman is just having a honest nap after taking a lunch of MeeSiamMaiHum

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 1:19pm

Policemen are just like us. A droid control by MIW. Force to work. Force to shit. Force to lose the Singapore Dream.

So just give these guys alone. Those guy that should be target is MIW because of those millions dollars they getting, they ought not to sleep at all. Not even sleep in peace. These MIW create a society that lack human touch, lack humanity. I wonder why Singapore even exist ? And OldMan go around the world preaching how good Singapore gov is. What the FART !

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 12:59pm

Maybe you would like to share with us on what other countries you think are better for you and maybe you should go live there :) I cannot stand people who only know how to complain about the situation they are in. Either 1) deep down inside, they think that they actually only deserve this much and nothing more and cannot do anything so they try to complain to make themselves feel better or 2) they have nothing else better to do.

I'm happy with the country I live in, true, there are some things that we have to sacrifice but for the other things that we get in return, I am willing.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 25 July, 2007 - 1:47am

Dr Sun Yat Sen was infuriated at the state of affairs and decided to take matters into his own hands. Many were butchered in his name, but no one denies that things have improved because he first complained. Without people caring enough to rock the boat, we would still be Syonan-to
-
`China, books and women` Dr Sun Yat Sen

Actually, I am not for criticizing the policemen on the ground. They are real people with real issues, and this guy looks tired.

I am for criticising the ministry for not ensuring that staff get enough rest, that the issues that they face at home are being addressed.

So shame on Tomorrow.sg for publishing this.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 12:09pm

He is just on the job - and that is sleeping.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 24 July, 2007 - 10:22am

DK i ought to give you a slap for putting this poor policeman in a hotspot, to gain pongs or stealing visitors to ping.sg?

Posted by mary tan* on 24 July, 2007 - 9:55am

mary tan: I just find this interesting and submit to tomorrow.sg. So what is wrong with that? Besides, I'm not the person who took the picture or wrote that blog entry.
And I didn't mention anything about ping.sg in the entire post. So why am I stealing visitors to ping.sg? What sense are you talking?

And if you want to give me a slap, drop me an email and I can arrange a session for you.

do anything you want... just don't get caught. guess this fellow missed that part of the course. oops

Posted by Anonymous Coward*** on 24 July, 2007 - 8:05am

Why you people so critical ? He just pretend to sleep only and just take a small nap only. Don't you people ever take small nap ? Come on, give people a break ! Unless you yourself don't nap, then don't critize ppl who do. You people do not have a sense of proportion on taking a nap.
