Auditor General’s Report - Millions Missing

theonlinecitizen said:

The original Auditor General Office’s (AGO) audit of 12 Ministries and associated statutory boards has revealed irregularities to an extent not fully revealed by the recent Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

According to the AGO, losses of public monies added up to $6.2 million, a substantial amount of which is still unaccounted for.

S$6.2million is only about 10 peanuts. With prices of everyday goods increasing by leaps and bounds it may only buy 9 peanuts now. No wonder you sure won't hear about this on the front pages of our esteemed Straits Times.

Ah, we don't pay peanuts. Otherwise the mistakes would be larger in magnitude.

Temasek and GIC accounts are still highly confidential. Staggering sums are involved. We may have suprises.

Government agencies with millions unaccounted for - in EDB's first audit in 46 years? - and it's one miserable article that most people probably missed; someone drowns while kayaking - however tragic that is - is front page news. Kudos to Straits Times' editors. ;-)

it takes trusting readers to prop up a newspaper
-
`First, readers trust the ST. That's our main strength. Second, we've kept up with our readers and continued to be relevant to their needs` 20th October 2006, Straits Times

There is not another newspaper in Singapore that we can really trust. So we still read an untrustable paper out of no choice.

why the need to scold people moron?

Ah what the heck you Singaporeans bitching about?

Some of our Malaysian government agencies have not been audited even once for the last 20 years. At a conservative guess, RM500 million is unaccounted for, and another RM1 billion or so involved in dubious schemes or simply wasted away.

But they do not pay their ministers and civil servants like we do.

They don't have to. It is much easier for Ministers and civil servants there to help themselves to the money ...

Trackback from Now You See Them, Now You Don’t:

The Auditor General is finding lots of stuff missing after an audit of 12 ministries and associated statutory boards. All of a sudden, the MIWs who awhile ago were only too eager to pontificate is suddenly silent....

The auditor general is gracious and has given face to EDB already by stating only 6.2 $million, who will ever believe that for whole of 46 years, only 6.2m is gone ? Come on, let's not be naive. Why is the auditor general bother to report 6.2m ? Some kind of damage control and wayang show is most likely done. Why auditor audit only when NSW university saga come about ? And what is 6.2m in this 4 trillion economy ? Let's be real. A damage control to brainwash into believing that only 6.2m is the loss. It could probably be more than 10 tens time consider the lack of transparency and accountability and nothing in check.

Ask yourself this simple question. If no check on you and no accountability on you, what will you do with so much money ? The answer is so obvious because we are human and greed is part of human character ! That's why we need transparency which we find none in Gov at all. We only find Mee Siam Mam Ham.

Did the auditor general really perform their job or just reactive only because of EDB saga ? If so, it demostrate wayangness and damage control !

First of all, gov say that there is check and balance, and yet when this thing happen, suddenly auditor general spring into Action with EDB and just quickly audit that 6.2m loss only ?

I am just a typical Singaporean but I'm no fool, and I am sure other Singaporean won't believe such crap either.

Perform some damage control first to announce little loss rather than let public uproar request to dig further to find greater loss is nice wayang and very good acting skill hone over the years by the gov.

See, now we think auditor general is a hero when in fact, they are flock of same crows.

Gov really learn from NKF saga that it is better do some damage control outfront to announce little loss than blowup to result in bigger loss.

Smart move, but we Singaporean knew better.
