The irony of life.

Posted by Orange Clock* on 16 February, 2007 - 2:29am

i dont really see any problem in that. its natural for jobs of that nature. you cant expect them to stop and eat only when it is 12 sharp right?

oh wait, they're wrong i suppose. they werent supposed to park by that lane, but they did. and before that, they actually 'booked' the guy's car for parking there. i suppose they're so screwed now that their face is up in the vid.

there is no problem with them having breakfast.
The problem is that they are parking on double yellow lines.
They should be parking in the carpark which can be seen behind the coffeeshop.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 16 February, 2007 - 3:28am

This shows that they r abusing the power of authority.By fact u should call 999 or traffic police hotline to deal with this type of people.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 16 February, 2007 - 4:55am

Pwned.

Booking the cameraman parked along double yellow lines is not wrong per se, the traffic wardens were just being assholes. Like the cameraman said, they could have been lenient, the wife was in the car (tho not shown in the video), just make sure he leaves ASAP. They didnt but instead book him on the spot. So like I said, they didnt do anything wrong by booking him, just being MAJOR assholes. Parking at same spot illegally to have breakfast, now that's stupid...

Basically the guy and the traffic wardens were both assholes for parking their godamn vehicles on the side of the road with double yellow lines. But the guy is the bigger asshole for behaving like some injured party when he shouldn't have parked his big honkin SUV there in the first place.

I'm quite certain that he just parked his car for a while to buy breakfast and wouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes. Otherwise why would his wife consent to waiting for him in the car? Not that it's okay to park there, but they should have given chance lah.

It goes to prove... What goes around, comes around.

Haha!

1 middle class whiner
2 civil servant who thinks they above the law

Posted by luther blissett* on 16 February, 2007 - 12:27pm

The motorist shouldn't have parked along double yellow lines even though his wife and kids are in the car. The wardens are right in doing their job. Pay the fine and get on with life.

The wardens are doing exactly what the motorist has done ... so they should also be fined for parking along the double yellow lines. They are definitely not parking there in the course of doing their duties. They are having breakfast which is of a personal nature. If they are using the company's time for breakfast, then they should be sacked.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 16 February, 2007 - 2:04pm

they may be having their meal break just like you and me @12pm .. which is entitled...

but parking in yellowline...

outsourcing = standard drop

Posted by luther blissett* on 16 February, 2007 - 2:25pm

Traffic wardens caught parking company motorcycle on double yellow line and having breakfast while on company time.

Don't you just love the power of the internet?

Will the relevant authorities comment on this, and will the two traffic wardens be reprimanded? ...

Civil SERVANTS feeling hungry so no give chance...? Then quickly finish the job before satisfying their hunger, conveniently leaving their own bikes in the "territory" of their own. Yes, that must be the case.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 16 February, 2007 - 6:32pm

both parties are idiots! period~!

Goodness, how does this petty incident deserve to be a special feature? I would have thought the latest news on the Shin Corp fiasco was more worthy.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 17 February, 2007 - 12:35am

For those of you who keep thinking they're on their lunch break - they're not. They don't state that they're having lunch, and neither do they dispute that they are eating their breakfast.

Unless it's part of their duties to have breakfast on company time, I do think they've flouted parking laws themselves, and they've been skiving off. The twit with the camera phone isn't in the right, but he's not in the wrong for asking them what they're doing.

It's just sad these guys were so lax in their skiving.

Posted by Anonymous Chimp* on 17 February, 2007 - 4:40am

Lunch or breakfast is not the issue. The issue is illegally parking and all three of them should be fined.

I think it's not an isolated case since another blogger also posted photographs of CISCO officers parking along double yellow lines. See the photos here http://the-upperroom.com/?p=75

Hmm… it seems like the traffic wardens got a taste of their own medicine. This started off with a motorist being extremely buay song with why the traffic wardens took a photo of his car plate instead of just notifying his wife to move away....

It's times like these that you need Singapore's number 1 tabloid to step in.

Big difference between motorbikes and car - car = bigass blockage, bikes = no blockage.

Petty bastard trying to be Scoop Martin with his mobile. Save face only!

Vehicles are vehicles. They should all be subject to the same road traffic rules. Or perhaps you are advocating different standards? Like privileged vs non-privileged?

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 February, 2007 - 4:51pm

Bikes no blockage? Oh, you'll have to come see the many bikes parked on pedestrian pathways beside my block. We've got to walk on grass and mud instead of concrete flooring meant for us.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 21 February, 2007 - 10:29pm

And yes, sometimes they even turn lift lobbies and void decks into dangerous "roads" as shortcuts.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 21 February, 2007 - 10:31pm

Only goes to show that the world needs more kindness...

Traffic wardens give chance la.
And the guy? Repaying evil for evil just shows how petty you are. Big car small c**k phenomenon...

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 February, 2007 - 12:26am

Also goes to show people need to be more law-abiding and considerate of other motorists.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 February, 2007 - 6:19pm

The MPV driver deserves to be fined. This is the kind of moron who thinks that "I'm just here for 5 minutes," but doesn't care that he's blocking traffic. If you can afford such a big car, you can bloody afford 50 cents to park at the carpark.

I don't sympathize with the traffic wardens either, but they are doing their job. Their job is to book vehicles parked illegally, not to ask you nicely to move. Furthermore, the claim is that the wife is in the car, but nowhere in the video do we see or hear the wife.

I don't support the posting of this video. I think it's pure vindictiveness. If the driver of the MPV is unhappy, he should have just registered his complaint to the authorities. Wonder how he would like it if the authorities posted the photo of his vehicle and his photo on a web with a big caption "ILLEGALLY PARKED VEHICLE BLOCKS TRAFFIC!!!"

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 February, 2007 - 12:55am

How come traffic warden must give chance, when it comes to fine?

But people no need to give chance, when the traffic warden's rice bowls are threatened?

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 18 February, 2007 - 5:29am

The guy should have lodged a complaint with the relevant authorities and submit a copy of the video along with it. If insufficient action is taken, posting up the video on YouTube is justifiable. But if he has the guts to put the wardens' faces to public scrutiny, then he should have the balls to include his own face. If not, he is just a pain in the ass prick.

If you are in the wrong, you are in the wrong. Quite whinging, get a grip and move on. Picking on someone else's mistakes doesn't make you any less right dude. If you are not happy that you can't get away with it, then go be a traffic warden and enjoy the so-called privileges lah!

Actually from past experiences and observation of others', lodging a complaint to a government body is often a waste of time. The standard replies are, "...the officer will be counselled," or "the officer will be disciplined." No specifics. Of course they thank you for your valuable feedback.

i agree MPV driver should be fine. Serve u right who cares your wife is in the car. No excuse. best is fine 10000. No mercy. Unless you have certified reason, like your wife is pregnant else pay 10k. As for traffic wardens, not professional should be sack. You may think its trival. No way man. Sack immediately.

Ming Kee Duck used to taste better. Very sad that the "Only Beef" stalled just stayed for alittle while :( One day must try that malay coffeeshop. looks abit rundown though.

Both parties are obviously at fault as far as traffic violations are concerned.
But I am very happy to see the video. I admire the MPV driver's courage and civic responsibility in actually following up on the issue, questioning the traffic authorities and taking a video. I dont think that the posting of the video is vindictiveness (it just looks like that because it is coupled with a traffic violation on the MPV driver's part). I hope all of us have the balls to do this.

Posted by Anonymous Coward* on 19 February, 2007 - 1:41pm

it's funny how so many people viewing the video kept saying the MPV driver was wrong and deserved to be fined.. The video was more about officials that 执法者,知法犯法.. not about the driver or the wardens being right..

well, thru out the video, at least the parts that are shown on the clip, the MPV driver didnt ask for leniency or claim that he's right (altho ironically, the warden did claim that they are "right" with doing their duty).. altho he did seek clarification on the offence he committed and he didnt really pester or persisted with arguing with wardens..

wat's so ironic in the clip is when the wardens claimed to be on duty doing their job while they are obviously not, and committing the very same crime that they are enforcing mins ago... If they have the cheek to claim that they doing their duty, then they shld have shown the professionalism that comes with wearing that uniform..

To conclude my view, 执法者,知法犯法,罪加一等。

It is sad that some of the threads posted show how inhuman people have become in society. What is wrong what is right? Does the law adequetly define it? Or are some of us so reliant on the state that we cannot defined it ourself? Or are we so scared of that everything that happens we just refer to the law and hide like whimps and not use our sense of compassion, right and wrong.

How utterly lame it is that some people can actually say things like 'get a grip' or comment about the posters 'weener'. Goes to show how small yours is in the first place and that you have an inferiority complex with regards to this to even mention it, also some people must be really poor or something to show jealousy about someone driving an SUV with regards to those people who comment explicitly about the 'SUV'. ( ps I don't own one in case your thinking I'm biased)

While so many people can go on blasting each other ,arguing who is wrong and who is right the crux of the issue is not as such.

Lets face the truth that we have become so caught up in society that we have lost the basics of humanity and compassion.

This video only goes to show the sad truth about our society today and that all of us just love being 'right' at the expense of others.

One thing to be learnt from this video is that what goes around comes around. In the end when the new generation shows no compassion and if we ever get caught in such situations we know we only have ourselves to blame no matter how we try to indemnify ourselves.

If i think as a 3rd person's view.He should not park there in the 1st place(which i also always do)

He get summon is bo bian, cos in sg, we civillians hv to suck thumb, we cannot play law wid the authorities.....

Back to the wardens,it is also true that they are doing their job in the 1st place(till the time they take photo ONLY),but it was proven as a fact that they think they go to eat, and park at the place where its not supposed to park.

So they are also wrong.Or unless, Eat food while parking at dbl yellow line is ok...
What i read from net,was the 2 warden get reprimanded or equalivent. We never know wat really happen behind the repots, mayb its jus to cover the civillians eyes? or mayb sometime later, those that reply to this topic, including me also get charge wid law?>cos its not freespeach place.

Personnelly i feel, unless u super rich, got super backing in dunno where... talk den got power. Its already a pratical world le.is part of the world that got $$ can talk, no $$ no talk...
