Singapore's First Fast Food Restaurant

Good Morning Yesterday said:

I doubt many young people know that Singapore’s first fast food restaurant was not from MacDonald’s or KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) but A&W. It was located at Dunearn Road near the former University of Singapore’s Bukit Timah Campus.

Useless trivia : A&W stands for Allen & Wright, after its founders Roy Allen and Frank Wright.

Thanks for the trivia there Fun, I didnt know that :)

Anyways, I do miss A&W heaps. I love their coney dog tuesdays and the waffles and especially the root beer floats in frosty cold mugs.

I'm sure they would still do pretty well, if only with the right type of management and advertising - the nostalgia factor for A&W alone would be in enough demand.

I used to frequent the AMK outlet. Somehow I feel it's more enjoyable eat there. And A&W had curly fries before Mac, and the big Root Beer with Ice Cream!

I've been to the one at Changi Terminal 2 a couple of times.

Thanks for that bit of trivia,
be good for a Quiz night yeah

remember... do you remember... the times of your lifeeee

When I was still a toddler, my grandparents would bring me to A&W for a snack.
Those old good times... sigh.

yeah..a&w i love the waffles the cornie dogg..the last outlet was at clementi ( near the sports stadium ) i always would go there every sun..the last time i went there was on 1991 before it closed down.

some says that a&w goes bankrupt other says they got too much competition from kfc n macdonald..well i think they should reopen again, maybe perhaps the government can chip in to help..i just hate to travel to j.b just to taste a&w.
