A visit to Cash Harvest Cult

Agagooga said:

I went to City Harvest Church last Sunday to try to save a friend's soul. I have since found that at least 2 other people I know go there, but I have mixed feelings about attempting to save theirs.

Now, I'd read accounts (example) of the place before, but visiting it and experiencing it firsthand was an enlightening experience, both of the slickness of megachurches and the Gospel of Prosperity they preached.

If you walked into that church some 10 years ago carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag, they call you materialistic. And to them, it was somewhat labelled as being sinful. But when you walk into that church carrying the most expensive leather trimmed Louis Vuitton handbag now, they will tell you how much God has indeed bless you with wealth. It's no longer sinful, not even near materialistic, it's call blessings. Ha!

Now, I call them, the Branded Church.

Exactly! A friend invited me to attend their Christmas celebration on 23rd December. There was a full-fledged theater production with all kinds of lighting and sound effects and numerous costume changes. The whole thing was obviously very well-planned and must have cost an exorbitant sum of money.

Before the show started, the dozen or so flat-screen television and projector screens around the hall showed video clips, including one that taught people how to make out a cheque to the church.

Honestly, I was very disturbed by the wealth, and the increasing wealth of this church. I am not saying that all churches should be poor. But this is obviously an extremely rich church. How much of its wealth actually goes towards helping the poor and needy? The feeling I got was that the people there were in their own "bubble", continuously giving money to the already-rich church while at the same time being oblivious to the ones that really need the money.

I haven't returned there since.
