Malaysian babies can no longer be Hitler, Stalin or even 007

Zee News.com said:

Adolf Hitler, Stalin, Zaniah (female adulterer), Batumalai (stone hill) or Ah Kow (dog) figure amongst a list of names that are termed "undesirable" for use by Malaysians to christen their children.

Recommended by Lucian: "Future generations will never have malaysian friends called Ah Kow. Ever."

We got a minister here hell-bent on censoring the Internet whose name is Fu Ah Kiow.

I wondered if they've banned Chow Chee Bye?

The Malaysian government probably learned that from elsewhere. Lawsuits may follow.

sillypore would have done it differently.

those names would be classified as restricted and you would have to bid for a permit for the "exclusive rights" to use it for 10 years. the "exclusive rights" would have to be renewed every 10 years (for a fee of course).

if the permit is not renewed, the name (together with the person) would be scrap i.e. shipped to batam/jb.

What happens if I am a multi-billionaire named Ah Kow and plans to migrate me and my businesses to Malaysia?

..and it so happens that my wife's name is Zaniah?
