Govt gets touchy.

mrbrown said:

Letter from MICA: "mr brown's views on all these issues distort the truth. They are polemics dressed up as analysis, blaming the Government for all that he is unhappy with. He offers no alternatives or solutions. His piece is calculated to encourage cynicism and despondency, which can only make things worse, not better, for those he professes to sympathise with..."

Recommended by dotaguy: "MICA slams mrbrown's TODAY article. Has mrbrown hit too close to home? And why is mrbrown suddenly a psuedonym he is hiding under? I thought everyone already knew who he is ?"

Well it appears that TODAY has succumbed to the pressure from authorities to “suspend” Mr Brown’s column. Bullshit. ...

Another lame and pathetic attempt by Ephraim Loy to score cheap political points. Yet too deluded to see that he will never raise to the exalted position of an MP or minister no matter how ass he kisses or how many balls he lick. A smart knows his position in life, and for one such as Ephraim, his lot in life will always be the annoying ingratiating toady.

Well...so much for freedom of speech & 'CREATIVITY'...

Happened to read Singapore Serf's blog on Disenfranchised http://singaporeserf.blogspot.com/2005/04/disenfranchised.html I think many Singaporeans will lose faith in the government's declaration of being a kinder , gentler , more inclusive society after this incident.

Well, well, well...I think Singapore is very, very far off from achieving an acceptable standard of press freedom and freedom of speech in general. We might as well walk around with duct tape over our mouths, since we don't need them for much.

And no, things haven't been becoming more expensive over the years. In fact, we can still get a bowl of noodles for 50 cents! And ERP? Never heard of it!

Trackback from The Current State:

I've wondered for a long time the question 'why'? Why did the government had to use such a strong rebuttal to Mr. Brown's final article in Today's Friday column....

Govts are meant to protect their citizens, not terrorize them into submission. I'm disturbed 2 things : one - our govt's continuous blatant mistrust towards its people, which reeks of class segregation ( illustration purposes only - "high class " people believe "lower class" people have inferior mental capacities and are "not fit" to partake in important decisions )... and two - the silence that follows after the govt silences a critic - classic example of media self-censorship under direct or indirect pressure from the govt. Now THIS is the very real thing that encourages apathy and indifference in the country's matters.. I'm sorry that mrbrown got caught in such an unfair situation, and I do hope it won't affect those frank and funny pieces that so many people love.

governments, not unlike other service providers, have to protect their investments from time to time. thats true even for newly established monarchies. as for class differences, isnt that the underlying premise for feudalism?

Someone always benefits from the status quo. I'd rather be the one to benefit from the lack of freedom than the one who loses his job fighting for petty ideals

Not all declarations are meant to be taken seriously. Rather than look to mandarins or eunuchs for direction, it seems more prudent to take ownership of where your life is heading. After all, no one owes you a living

mr brown has it real bad. First, K Bhavani's diatribe. And now this moronic poem by dipshit Ephraim Loy.

Was that really necessary? sycophants, like whores, render their services openly. That doesnt mean we want or deserve to be insulted for trying to make a living

`every creed and every race has its role and has its place`

moronic is right

`Then an intimidated press and the government-controlled radio together can regularly sing your praises, and slowly and steadily the people are made to forget the evil things that have already been done, or if these things are referrred to again they're conveniently distorted and distorted with impunity, because there will be no opposition to contradict` Legislative Assembly Debate, Oct 4, 1956
