Sleep Tight, Baby and Wake up to a Brave Open World

Molly Meek said:

Actually Molly also welcomes the move. It sounds good, except that Molly doesn't know what a light touch is. Molly only knows that "light" can be defined in dark and heavy-handed ways, but that's really another story altogether. Molly really likes the term "light touch." It complements the other cute term, "soft authoritarianism." We live in a unique culture, the biggest achievement in which is that the most bitter ingredients are always whipped into palatable world-class dishes.

Recommended by lunatic_fringe: "Molly shares with us the realms of possibility arising from Dr. Lee Boon Yang's comments on how the Gahmen should take a lighter touch in the way it manages new media such as the Internet and podcasts."

In the headlines today is a speech by Dr Lee Boon Yang, the Minister for Information and the Arts. This is a landmark speech for the blogosphere 'cos the Garmen has announced that it "plans to ease up its watch over political happenings in cyberspace"....

In the end it will be the time-honoured lubricator of doors - commerce - that the beloved, fascist government will respond to and ease off the lever. When such outright fascism stands in the way of trade, Singapore will eventually revert more and more to the illusion of crony-democracy we have today in the States.

Surely it is not as though Dr. Lee seriously believes that people really vote based on a satirical podcast instead of on the progress packages they receive, the upgrading packages offered and the fear of the lack of vote secrecy?...
