Scholars: A Species of Ugly Brats?

The Critic said:

While I do see some inconvenience in not being able to pick your choice of career, I do see the relentless whingeing of spineless scholar-types as particularly annoying and extremely offensive. You would think that having benefitted from the system over and above the average person would make someone see that he has to reciprocate in due manner.

"Or: Why government scholarships should quit whinging about their scholarship bonds."

Scholarships could whinge? ;)

IT'S ALIVEEE!!!

*recoils in mock horror*

Doh! Pai sei :)

I don't know why but I agree with the title of this post.

Remember the racist govt. scholar guy that stopped blogging after seeing people getting caught for sedition?

With local government scholarships being so popular, most people don't seem to realize that they actually have a choice of scholarships they could call their own (bond-free, but depends on where you want to study). I've illustrated this in a write up on an alternative to Singapore scholarships, which reflects my personal experience as a student living (and paying) abroad.

Actually, they can whine and complain all they want. They should just be smart enough to know who to complain to.

If I were a ridiculously filthy rich man, say with a 10 billion dollar fortune, and I were to come and bitch to you about how the bad weather in the Maldives is preventing me from landing my private jet there and how I won't be able to enjoy my 3 month long holiday in the seaside chalet, replete with butler and hot babes, would you be able to empathise with me? :)

Of course not! I should go bitch to fellow ridiculously rich people!

That's not the point.

It's the principle of not being contented and the inability to appreciate what you have and be thankful that is being contravened here and not the choice of audience. :)

other than the fear of reprisal, theres really no reason for an intelligent adult to accept his lot in his life and not want for something better

Of course not, but those who complain to the high heavens that they're very miserable/unfortunate when they're actually not are ridiculous and in the eyes of some, contemptible.

I'd have to agree. but when you've doing well in the rat race, you wouldnt worry much about looking contemptible

basically we are just a generation of selfish people who put ourselves first.

Not all scholars are like what you think... I have encountered scholars with very nice personalities in my course of education. =)
