Does Tomorrow have a Tomorrow?

Starryluvly said:

Really, the editors at Tomorrow are not doing any favours for themselves. If I submitted a site calling XX a bitch and a whore, fine don't publish it. Obviously it wasn't that, otherwise the two editors wouldn't have published it in the first place. I doubt the two editors would have published it without reading the article I posted - if they didn't that why the hell are they editors in the first place?

Recommended by mooiness: "Starry submitted an article by XLX listing the facts surrounding the BM hate-site. It was published by Agagooga and James Seng. Then it was pulled down abruptly. Interested minds want to know: how and why did this occur? And what does this show of Tomorrow.sg's editorial integrity?"

[Agagooga: For the record, the post was pulled because James revoked his vote, rather than being due to any behind-the-scenes machinations.]

Are there updates on this issue? Or are the editors of tomorrow just going to lie down and play dead?
I also noticed that our esteemed editor xiaxue has been largely silent in processing submissions to Tomorrow.sg. Any particular reason? Or is her foot still stuck in her mouth?

I don't really expect a reply from this, just wanted to clarify the status of the integrity of Tomorrow's editors.

Trackback from Global Voices Online:

Singapore blog aggregator Tomorrow.sg continues to take knocks from other bloggers, who complain about its editorial approach and integrity....

blacklisted xlx from trackback/comments for continuously posting irrelevant trackbacks to entry.

Which trackback are you talking about?

You want articles about dogs, somebody gives you one about that bitch, what's the problem here?

yeah what happened to the editorial statement? sigh.. disappointed yet again..

i think we are on draft #231 now and we are split 50-50 on policy #2032 whether we should have the comma or not in the 2nd sentence; and how can we forget the most important issue: what brand of diaper mrbrown's new born Joy should be using in policy #1034.

Give us a few more weeks (maybe like 52 weeks or so) and we will have something for you. In the meantime, you just have to make do with agagoga's point of view altho several editors violently disagreed with it.

bah!

what you are saying in effect is that this site is your playground and you get to do whatever you like. thats why there is no need for rules

no, what i am saying is the editors agree to disagree.

thats assuring. and to be fair, if you own the site, you should be able to do anything you like, though its bound to put some people off

was there not going to be a editorial statement on this last weekend? what happened ah? looks like CNY everybody vely busy hor... no time to set the integrity of tomm.sg right... bah!

Impersonating Kenny, Shuyin, Shan, whoever. Not gonna work....

Sorry to be dredging this up after so long, folks. But this was too funny to not merit a mention.

Whatever else you may say about Xiaxue, you can always credit her for a fine sense of humour.

Seriously, So many trackbacks, mostly saying essentially the same shite.

How I wish there's someone seperating the wheat from the chaff, and deleting some.
But then, some will still complain 'censorship'.

It's times like this when I like the Slashdot karma system and the filtering you can do around that (oh and the karma bitch slap!). Maybe I could start YAA (Yet Another Aggregator) for this :)

hey james g .

I visited your site. http://igallagher.com/. Seems that it got hacked.

Thanks again Merv, site is fixed and patched (it was a problem in Joomla the CMS I currently use - everyone using this should be on 1.0.7!!). I'll probably stick a copy of the 'pwned' frontpage on my blog for posterity :)

Thanks for the heads up on that .. shit .. that must have happened today. Possibly an exploit of Joomla ... which I'm working on replacing anyway!

You could serve the wheat... and then trackback the summary here =D

Deleted trackback to geekgeek's blog as he has stated he does not wish to be Tomorrowed.

Thanks Daryl

I think I understand the meaning of defamatory from tomorrow.sg (in particular one of the editors, Xiaxue)
Any negative comments concerning Ms Wendy Cheng aka Xiaxue are defamatory.
Any malicious, negative, unfounded rumors/accusations directed at other people are not.

I'm abit slow in commenting on this whole saga and I know how this is so totally over but I'd just like to give my 2cents' worth.
I understand Xiaxue commented that "anything defamatory will not be published. Simple as that." when someone asked why the post about her exposé was taken off. However I realise that articles pertaining to the exposé regarding Dawn Yang was put up without taking into consideration the possibility of defamation. Note that people could only make comparisons between her past and present photos and no one could actually prove that Dawn has undergone cosmetic surgery. So why is it any different when it comes to Xiaxue (when people actually have evidence of her less-than-honorable actions)? Why are the trackbacks considered defamatory in this case when it is not in Dawn's?
Food for thought.

Editors do not always speak for the team.

And if before and after photos aren't enough for you - well, I'd like to sell you a magic stone.

oh no hope u are not from any top sch cos u seem to miss the point.

let me explain it simply :

negative comments on wendy cheng are considered deflamatory whereas negative comments on other bloggers are not considered deflamatory and instead were published , unlike wendy cheng's which are not published. Isnt this a case of biasness

Posted by chris* on 19 January, 2006 - 3:39pm

Alamak u are missing the point Agagooga. I'm not disbelieving the fact that Dawn might have undergone cosmetic surgery (from the before and after photos). I'm just puzzled why the posts concerning that issue are not considered defamatory whereas those of Xiaxue's are, taking into consideration all the evidence that has been presented so far. You can leave this to Xiaxue to answer because I think her definition of "defamatory" is different from the mass public.

Btw, I applaud you for making the effort to respond to so many of the comments surrounding this debacle and for being so objective in your responses.

P.S. What can your magic stone do and how much huh?

Ahh.

My magic stone is better than the one in Borders and cheaper too! Hoho.

Trackback from 诺微的森林(Mirror): 又是Xiaxue (in Chinese):

昨天上Technorati,赫然发现搜索关键字排行榜的第一位是“xiaxue”。Xiaxue是新加坡的知名blogger,话题人物。两个月前我写过她引发的厕所事件。这次又是因为什么引起英语世界的关注?...

Trackback from Mooiness!: Xiaxue vs. Sydney race riots: A comparison:

Deal with one XX-sympathiser and you've dealt with them all. They all have a common modus operandi: attack the critics of her words, their motives and their characters but never justifying her words. Why not? Because they can't be justified....

Sad that the editors can allow this kind of thing. Considering what you guys did to people like Dawn Yang and Daphne Teo - who did nothing malicious to hurt anyone in the blogosphere.

So what if e.g. Dawn had gotten any form of surgery? You've got no proof and its plain defamatory. Yet those articles were happily published with editors approval. And we know the harm it has caused her.

Yet here there is blatant proof that someone is maliciously trying to hurt others and this person can get away with it.

Double standards that can only discredit Tomorrow. Sad.

Are before and after photos insufficient proof for you? I can also subponea 800 members of her RJC schoolmates for you.

And what does the fact that this article was published, and the deleting of comments and trackbacks has stopped tell you?

There is now a writeup on the above controversy in the Digital Life supplement of the Straits Times dated 17 Jan 06, Page 20.

Trackback from Singapore: Blog "Queen" in Another Controversy [Global Voices Online]:

Recall Xiaxue, who soon after New Year’s 2006 started an online petition to ban aerosol foam sprays from Singapore after unhappy encounters with both foam sprays and Bangladeshi foreign workers on New Year’s Eve?...

Kids, sit down and read THIS!!.

Kids, don't even bother b'cos Dave's is a dedicated "blog-duh!" who can see no wrong in whatever Wendy does. He's at it again, so nothing new.

And Dave, if you're reading this, the purpose of a blog ISN'T to "invoke EMOTIONS, invoke PASSION"; it doesn't even have to be personal, for heavens sake. How do you account for the many technology blogs out there then?

But back to your point, how much passion do you think someone's blog can invoke before it becomes tasteless and offending? Oh gosh, maybe Hitler would make a great blogger if he were born in our time. And the three local bloggers who were hauled to court for sedition (one for having a blog called "The Second Holocaust") aren't at fault, because they were only doing what you claim bloggers ought to be doing?

I can see why you're a huge fan of Wendy--you make just as much (or rather little) sense as her. =)

I doubt Dave intended to be taken seriously

"I’ve been following XiaXue for more than a year now. I have witnessed her blog grow in character, spirit and depth. She is a very talented and savvy young woman. I believe that in time Wendy Cheng will take blogging to new heights in Singapore. - Dave Lucas"

I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Wendy Cheng will take blogging to new lows is more like it.

Owwch! That's a mean-spirited RACIST low blow! So my two most-favorite bloggers in the whole world are Asian women: Michelle Malkin and Wendy Cheng. Their blogs are different as night and day. Whip me with a pair of chopsticks! What are you going to do if I re-locate to Singapore? Cane me? I'm glad I live in a place where free speech is O.K.
