Wipeout

A sentence that is more harsher than killing an animal or destroying the environment. So please remove all "PIRATED" songs, movies and applications. We have to PAY. There is no free meal unless you are granted a stay in Changi chalet. The wipeout has begin.

hahahahhahahaha

Trackback from because nobody cares what the hell you ate for lunch. - A question for RIAS.:

Seriously, what happens to all the money collected from fines?...

Because there is a cost to prosecuting a person, the fine primarily goes back to the government for effort spent. Of course, part of it goes to some government revenue, I think (as per all other fines).

Erm, I am not sure of the laws here... but if Lee & Lee is acting on behalf of RIAS, then RIAS *might* get something ("damages"), but whether it goes back to the recording firm, I am not too sure too.

If the recording firm(s) do get something, then whether it gets back to the pockets of the artistes, which in my personal opinion, I highly doubt. If they do get any cent back, it will probably be... *cough* used for some marketing and advertising expense *cough* for the betterment of the artistes.

1 cent worth. =) I think I have missed out some points, then again, it's just personal opinion. Please don't quote me. =)

Just wondering... from the numerous letters that have been scanned and put up by kind volunteers seem to point to the same files, especially the F.I.R. one.

Maybe the recording companies should realise that they are putting crapola albums out these days. Nobody wants to buy an entire album of 13-14 songs when only ONE is any good, if at all. Downloaded music eating into their profits? Ha!!

It used to be not an offence to download a song. I am not sure if that is still the case after the relavant laws have been updated since the signing of the FTA with the US. Note that in the letter, they specifically refer to the act of "potentially sharing the Materials with other users". Unauthorised distribution of copyrighted media contents is definitely against the law, possessing unauthorised copies of the contents seem to fall into another category.

Oh Liberty, what crimes are committed in thy name!.

for goodness' sakes, just pay for your music, dammit, and quit griping about our law. In fact, in the US, many people have already gotten hefty fines. You don't snatch books from their shelves, nor newspapers from the newstand without paying, so what is wrong with paying for media content??

Who gets paid when somebody buys a Beatles album?

the cashier lah!
*kok*
freaking bong kang ah?

Wrong, bitch.

Record companies get a big share, Michael Jackson gets a big share, and the Beatles themselves get a teeny weeny cut.

That's why this intellectual property business is super dubious.

simi bitch? woah! woman-hater, ah! no wonder still single and dating his left hand every night.

i buy cd i pay money to cashier. you so special one ah? must have michael jackson come and take your $20 ah? sure or not? better not pang pui man. later the people busy with dawn turn to you ah. if really true hor, you better be even more careful ah... later you kena kidnap to his neberneberland and kena molest...

Michael Jackson owns the publishing rights of the Beatles songs. So anybody, when buying a Beatles CD for $20, gives anywhere from $2 to $4 to Michael Jackson.

Get your facts straight.

erm.. more plausible that the beatles don't get a cent... they sold their rights, they don't get anything from then on.... unless of course it's contractual royalties (yes how likely is that when they don't own the songs anymore)

Artists sign contract with recording companies to make albums/songs. These companies have rights to these songs. Artists may get royalties over time depending on the contract. So its natural that these companies get a big share. They're capitalist. Most budding artists do not have the capital to make and promote an album.

RIAS cannot catch all. By suing a few and promoting their actions, they hope to deter/scare the rest. As in most crime, you can't possibly eliminate crime, but you can reduce the numbers. Anyway, its a chicken and egg thingy. Technology is moving.

If you continue to share media, do be updated with current technology and know what you are in for. And for goodness sake, don't brag about what you achievements.

RIAS definition of piracy

http://www.rias.org.sg/piracy.html

"Police will not condone, let alone tolerate any pirates who attempt to use Singapore as a base for for manufacturing or distribution of counterfeit or infringing articles. We value the excellent working relationship we share with the right holders and will continue to leverage on intelligence and work closely with the brand and copyright owners to cripple any piracy syndicate operating in Singapore."

so if I ripped the songs from the CD i've bought and save in my own comp and don't share, it's not considered piracy right?

so long don't share, or download via P2P net, by RIGHT no issue hor?

in any case, downloading mp3 or media are supposed for 24 hours preview and later delete..

hmm so i keep download every after 24 hours shouldn't be a problem?

Aiya.... go buy via online (one track dunno like $1 or more)....safer :)
