Is homophobia essential to our 'national interests'?

The part which I had difficulty writing a response to was that of his internalised Christian worldview. On the one hand, he said he had to act based on what was right for Singapore, but on the other hand, he excused his own biases by saying they're so deep down, he may not even be conscious of them. How does one claim to be making fair decisions that is right for a secular state if one does not make an effort to overcome subjective bias?

I thought the answers Mr Ho gave was quite reasonable. I don't see why he should have to endorse homosexuality publicly anyway. The majority of world leaders don't do that even if they're from much more liberal countries.

At least our government is not openly homophobic and anti-gay like the Republicans and Christian Right in America.

So I wonder who is more bias here. If Anonymous Coward is so concern about gay rights and thinks he can do a much better job, maybe he ought to change the people's general homphobic mindsets first before wagging fingers. And I happen to think that the gov't is more cognizant on this matter than the common citizen.

Yeah but fundamentally we got to understand that homosexuality and Christianity are incompatible on a certain level, and we're not going to resolve the problem until we figure out whether the homosexuals are going to stop their practice or whether the Christians are going to stop condemning them for being "immoral".

But given that it's more hurtful for homosexuals not to come out to the open, than for the Christians to just modify one of their many beliefs, I think you know where my sympathies lie.

If they want to say that "the volk" are not ready for homosexuality, then they're right, but then they shouldn't mention the word "homophobic". If they say that the volk are homophobic, obviously no politician would ever say that. If they say that the volk are not homophobic that's obviously bullshit. But it's the standard practice to put words into the mouth of the volk.

I'm gay, I don't think my country accepts me as a citizen.
