Blogs in Exams

Melvin notes:

You know the Singaporean blogging scene has actually made it rather big when you get GP essay questions on blogging and podcasting like so:

Oh my god remember the student's sketchbookpad comic?

It came to pass.

Pray tell, how does the mention of Blogcasting in a GP paper equate to the Singaporean blogging scene making it big? The blogging phenomena maybe, but I see nothing on the question refering specifically to the Singapore Blog scene.

If you are taking the GP for A levels this year, I pray that you will be careful in making unsubstantiated statements like that.

Dobermani:

I reviewed my entry and realised that indeed, my post does seem... rather senseless. But consider that this is the first time (to my knowledge) that a question regarding blogcasting has appeared GP-wise for students to discuss. During my examination, it was with a slight sense of amusement that I read that question, for I saw the appearance of this question as an indication that, oh my, blogs and podcasts are no longer relatively unknown tech-terms, but have become normalized, where most people now supposedly know sufficiently enough information regarding Bs and Ps to debate their usefulness. This is in contrast to a few years back where a more likely response was "Huh what's a blog?"

I feel the tribute to the Singaporean blogging scene lies not in the question itself, because as you said, there's absolutely nothing mentioned in terms of local blogging. Rather, it is in the fact that such a question regarding blogcasting was actually set and made open for discussion in a local JC's GP preliminary examination (of which usually tend to have more formal and "serious" questions such as terrorism, environmental damage, social issues and the like) that I feel the local blogging scene deserves credit, for it shows the growing significance of blogs Singapore-wise, and who else is responsible for the promotion of blogs, the infusing of blogging culture into the mainstream and the widespread popularity, propagation and acceptance of good blogging but us bloggers ourselves?

But then again, point taken. I will take care in making sure that I do not write as if I were jumping to nonsensical conclusions in the future. Thanks for pointing that out.

Appreciate your reply. Don't mind me. I'm just hiding behind this fako nickname to unleash the caustic nitpicking side of me . Cathartic or something like that. bleah. Another word that has been overused in blogging.

In real life, I'm just a pussy who wouldn't even make a sound if some skinny weakling pushed me out of the queue for Hello Kitty. :)

I'm Tyler Durdan!

What does narcissistic exhibitionism mean?

I don't think Anonymous Coward should confuse steven in this way. Clearly, the example is a wonderful way to illustrate the meaning of 'narcissistic exhibitionism', but, I think there should be a clearer distinction between the blog itself, and the voice behind the blog.

The blog being merely the product of a person's narcissistic exhibitionist tendencies.

Don't you think so?

On the other hand, perhaps, this blog is not the best example, as the blog in many ways go beyond mere narcissistic exhibitionism.

What does "podcasting" mean? Some long bean movie requiring extras?

A bit of a narrow scope for the question, in my humble opinion as an education professional, but your mileage may vary. I would've posed the question about internet technologies in general, because there's a lot going on too beyond blogs and podcasts!
