Bloggers.sg Legal Panel

The "Blogging and the law" panel at Bloggers.sg will feature 2 panellists: Daniel Koh from Rajah and Tann; and Tan Min-Liang from Tan & Tan Partnership. We are very glad that two of Singapore's leading lawyers in the IT arena have agreed to speak at Bloggers.sg, and we do hope you'll come with questions on the law as it relates to blogging. Here's some background on both:

Daniel Koh is a partner in the firm of Rajah & Tann. Daniel is also the editor of The Law and Practice of Injunctions in Singapore, published by Sweet & Maxwell Asia and has also co-authored the chapters on Intellectual Property, Defamation and Employment Disputes. He has a broad based practice and a large part of his work includes claims for corporate fraud, breach of contract claims and resolution of commercial disputes. Daniel was also the lead counsel in the first reported case in the Singapore High Court, TJ Systems and others v. Ngow Kheong Shen in the year 2003, where he successfully represented the plaintiff in a defamation claim against a defendant who wrote a defamatory internal e-mail. Daniel was also among the first to have represented a plaintiff in obtaining a Court Order against an internet service provider in 1997, compelling the disclosure of the identity of a user who had committed copyright infringement over the internet.

Tan Min-Liang is a technology lawyer with the boutique IT/IP firm of Tan & Tan Partnership, and is also the external Asia-Pacific General Counsel to the one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. He advises clients on contentious and non-contentious matters relating to technology law, including Internet, hardware and software issues, as well as intellectual property rights, entertainment, computer gaming, new media and telecommunications regulatory issues. He has chaired, made keynote speeches and sat on expert panels at conferences and international seminars, and has spoken at length on the technology law issues such as IT contractual issues, IP rights issues, legislative and regulatory issues, etc. He is also the technology law columnist for one of Singapore's leading newspapers and has written articles in legal, technology and telecommunications publications and books highlighting the interplay between technology and the law. Min-Liang is currently the Chair of the Singapore Chapter of the Creative Commons and the honorary legal advisor to the Singapore Sailing Federation.

Hi i would like to ask if it is legal to post on a blog offensive information about another party. And the information post is untrue and wrong. Is legal action the only way to make the person take the post away.
