Bloggers.SG 2005 - Frequently Asked Questions

As visitors to Tomorrow.sg know, Bloggers.SG, the first Singaporean bloggers' conference, will be held this Saturday, 16 July, 2pm, at DXO (it's a club near the Esplanade - some of you might know it as the former Embassy club). (If you haven't heard about it, here's the latest announcement.)

Here are answers to some questions we've been asked:

Q: Is the event for REAL? (Some people are actually asking this.)

A: YES!

Q: Must I register?

A: No. Just come, but be early, if you want a seat.

Q: How much do we have to pay?

A: Zero. We are not charging for the event.

Q: Can I come if I'm not a blogger?

A: Sure.

Q: Can I come if I am under 18?

A: Yes, you may attend Bloggers.SG if you are under 18 (Even babies are allowed). But you may not participate in the party after 6pm.

Q: What's up with the Woodland event on 16th July?

A: It is a separate event organized by NLB. It will be held on 16th July 10am at Woodland Library. We encourage you to attend that too.

ps: Please do not confuse this with Bloggers.SG - our event will held on 16th July 2pm at DXO.

Q: Will the press/media/ISD/gahmen/MPs/my mother be coming?

A: Who knows? We won't be giving special treatment to anyone, nor will we be turning anyone away. Yes, even MPs will have to come early to chope the seat. And it will be fun blogging about the press/media people. Hurhurhur.

Q: Will there be Wi-Fi?

A: Yup. Free Wi-Fi so bring along your laptop. (However, quality of the Wi-Fi has yet to be determined.) Do bring along spare laptop batteries as we may not be able to provide charging stations.

Q: I am overseas. Is there any way for me to attend "virtually"?

A: We will be setting up a IRC backchannel (a tradition) for those who are overseas or for those in the audience who wish to participate anonymously. Information on the backchannel will be provided soon.

Q: I can't attend. Will there be video or sound recordings which I can access?

A: No promises, but DXO will be helping us with the video and sound recording. We will try to make them available online as soon as possible.

Q: How do I get there?

A: Public transport is advisable considering there are certain road closures due to the NDP, as well as expensive parking fees. The nearest MRT station is City Hall (go through CityLink Mall).

Q: Am I allowed to smoke inside DXO during the event?

A: No, we have young people in the audience. But you may excuse yourself to smoke outside, on the outdoor balcony upstairs, or tahan until the after-event party, when smoking in the premises won't be a problem.

Q: Will meals be provided?

A: No. Lunch and dinner is on your own but we are sure you won't have problem meeting new friends to settle it among yourself.

Light refreshments (sponsored by SHINE) will be served during one of the breaks. Our caterers are certified Halal and certain items will be vegetarian. In addition, MSN has thrown in 2 drinks for the first 500 participants for the party.

Q: Is the post-event party at DXO free?

A: Yes, and you'll get 2 free drinks too. Your friends who did not attend Bloggers.SG may go for the party as well, but normal charges apply.

Q: How much is a T-shirt?

A: Each person is entitled to buy only one T-shirt and we will be charging S$10 per T-shirt.

Q: I'm overseas/I cannot make it for the event. Can I order a T-shirt?

A: The T-shirt is only for those who attend. If you're very lucky, you might find it on eBay or Yahoo Auctions the next day.

Q: But it is not fair! I am an overseas student and I want a T-shirt.

A: Sorry, the T-shirt is only for those who attend.

Q: You guys are kidding about bellydancers right?

A: Nope. There will be bellydancers. And they will be belly good.
