Forbes reported:

Singaporeans came out on top in almost all measures of Asians' English confidence levels, the survey of more than 16,000 people in seven countries conducted by the international language school found.

jseng: Even though the state of such singapore weblogs is really sad. I don't think you should have linked to that girl's weblog which could possibly give her some unwanted and unnecessary problems. You should really just remove the link and just quote her or something.

why do you assume i share your opinion that these weblogs are "sad"? nope, i love such blogs - it is really unique and only can find it in singapore. in fact, i am quite proud of that fact. it is this diversity that makes the blogging world so fun.

I apologise for the baseless assumption but I have seen incidents whereby such innocent teenage blogs which serve as an outlet for their frustrations/happiness and for their friends being linked and dozens of people going over their website and flaming the owners, in the end, causing plenty of distress. Do you think that's fair to them?

If you put something up on the Internet, on a public site, it is automatically fair game for linking. Perhaps not for reproduction, modification, etc, but for linking, absolutely. Links form the very basis of the Internet and to put up a public page and then say "no you cannot link to this" is total rubbish.

I knew somebody would probably retort with this "if you put up a page, i can link to it whethet you like it or not"

To a certain extent, I do agree with such a school of thought but not in this case when the blog is obviously meant to be personal.

But clearly whatever I say now is irrelevant as even the editor himself feels nothing wrong with doing so.

wah, you say liao i must immediate agree one har?

dont give me the crap "nothing you say is irrelevant" and then give up as if we are some sort of dictator. you want to make a point, go say it, put it on your own blog, comment here, but never never tell me what i should do, just like i dont tell you what you should do.

Yes of course everyone is entitled to their own views and I'm not trying to impose my thoughts on anyone here but I just felt that it is a bit unethical.

No hard feelings. :)

yea sure. "unethical", "feels nothing wrong", "irrelevant", "private blog" - i say bullshit to "not imposing" part. dont try reverse psychology on me - people here are not dumb.

There isn't any intention for any "reverse psychology bullshit" here and in no way do I think that the people here are dumb. On the contrary, I believe everyone here is much more intelligent than a superficial teenage boy like myself.

I had probably overreacted in this short little posting of yours. No, this is not a very big deal. People even set up sites solely for a somewhat similar purpose. Happens all the time. Heck, I even laughed at some of the stupid horrendous blogs my peers own out there.

My bad.

Zhi Yang is just being a nice, considerate boy. Is there a need for jseng to get so agitated?
